The exclusive VIP bar & lounge known as Vertigo Ultralounge has now officially opened. On the 28th August, the lounge hosted its Grand Opening Party. The party was a great success with invite only guests filling the main room as well as live music going on late into the night.

After a fierce battle DJ Antwone, DJ Collo, DJ Jeremy and DJ KC have so far made it into the finals of the Pioneer DJ Quest 08.

Over the last couple of weeks DJs from around Hong Kong have been playing their best tunes and applying their best skills to be the winner of the tournament. The final is just around the corner on Friday 12th September at Club No. 9, 9 Queens Road Central, Hong Kong.

A very successful producer with a unique style of his own, Boys Noize will be coming to Hong Kong on October 10th (Friday) at Volar. High profile Australian house DJ Sarah Main chatted to Skrufff this week about her upcoming mix compilation Pure Pacha and life as an Ibiza Pacha resident DJ and revealed that she considers Australia’s ‘tall poppy syndrome’ to be rife back home.

“What I discovered was that when you gained recognition on any level people really enjoyed shooting you down. Apparently ‘I slept my way to my position in Pacha’ or so was the rumour when I moved to Ibiza!!’,’ said Sarah.

Frontman Jeffrey Young is classically trained veteran of jazz who has an enviable musical pedigree. Boasting of an expertise that is widely regarded in mainstream entertainment, he has had successful forays into Hip Hop and R&B, culminating in collaborations with the likes of Chaka Khan and Beyoncé Knowles.

Opium Soul V - ‘A monthly night of Deep, Uplifting and Soulful House Cuts’. This September features the return of the Ugly Army (Tai Pan Dan and Arun R performing together).  The theme set for the night is ‘camouflage dress code’.

In addition to the headline performance, support acts DJ May and DJ Tynee, two of Hong Kong’s most accomplished female DJs, join The Ugly Army, as GI Janes meet GI Joes in a militant mash up of house music.

Fans of Witness, the highly-acclaimed indie/alt-country rock act from the northern England town of Wigan, are in for a unique treat, as the band’s forming members, guitarist Ray Chan and vocalist Gerard Starkie, are reforming for a once-in-a-lifetime reunion show, right here in Hong Kong.

Contemporaries and friends of Wigan’s other famous sons, the Verve, who recently headlined Japan’s Summer Sonic festival, Witness were hailed as new indie hopes when the group’s debut, Before the Calm was released in 1999. The album was universally applauded, drawing much of its strength from Chan’s lithe guitar and vocalist Starkie’s sore-throated angel’s voice and haunting lyrics.

People are seldom straight forward or understandable. Relationships with others tend to weave and dodge around your consciousness. But if you squint your eyes open you can often catch a glimpse of them on the edge of your vision.  This series is my impressions of people who have entered my field of vision and the range of my palette knife.
