A: Welcome to HKClubbing Radio with Alyson, joining us today, we have the WINNERS for this year’s Battle Of The Bands! For those who didn’t really know who they are, here’s a very good chance to get to know the band better. Can I please ask them to introduce themselves?
AA: Hi, my name is Adrian, I’m singer and… stuff!
DA: Hi, my name is Don, and I play guitar…
AA: And stuff!
DA: And stuff! (Giggles)
A: (LOL) Welcome to the HKClubbing Radio! Good to have you here! Now congrats, first of all, for winning. How do you feel?
AA: Strange.
DA: Glad it’s over! But eh… it was good. Good fun.
AA: Yeah. I think we enjoyed no matter what. I mean, winning is like the icing on the cake. But the whole thing was a lot of fun.
A: Now as you are the “Winners” in Hong Kong, has things started to be changing? Has people start changing around you?
AA: Not really…
DA: (Head-shaking) Hmmm…
AA: We’ve kinda had this before… we had an album out…six years ago… and we had quite a lot of attention back then, so we know that the attention won’t last very long, so… we kinda suck it up while it’s here. (Giggles)
A: That’s very down to earth!
AA: Yeah, we’re very humble…
A: Sounds good! Going through the whole “Battle Of The Band” thing, how long did it actually take? Like starting from scratch… writing a song… did you actually write a song for the competition?
DA: Well, coz we don’t really play any covers, we only play our own music, so just hand-picked a bunch that we’re gonna play, and stuck to it.
A: Ok… so what do you think makes you win?
Both: (LOL)
AA: Ahhh… I don’t know! I mean a lot of the bands that made it was really good. We’re just lucky. I wouldn’t say we stood-out at all! We did out thing…
DA: Yeah…
AA: I think the whole time we just… (clap) crossed out fingers and do what we do! We’re just fortunate.
A: As we’re talking about some bands, they make their own sound, but when they got signed by big record labels, they have to change a bit. Are you scared that if a big record label came up to you and say, “Hey, we wanna offer you a deal?”
AA: We’ve had that experience already…
DA: A lot!
AA: We’ve had a fair amount of experience of labels and stuff. Like originally, we worked with one guy, and we slowly kinda realized that he was pushing us one way, and we went like, “Nah, we don’t really wanna sound like that…”
DA: I mean, there’s a thin line to compromise, when it comes down to it.
AA: Yeah. Both parties have to bend a bit. But we’re quite savy about it, and we know what’s expected of us, and like that. But we’re quite (sure) about what we want, what kind of an agreement we want, because we don’t really wanna have to go through that again. But you’ll never know! We could be a boyband in a few years, singing in French!
A: Let’s hope not!! Now as we’re talking about performing, being signed, being a rock star… you’re gonna be performing on the main stage at Rockit very soon! How’s that like for you?
DA: A lot cooler! Coz the tent was hot!
AA: Yeah! I didn’t really enjoy playing at Rockit… it was fun, the whole… two days was excellent, but playing wasn’t that fun for us, and I don’t know what the reason was. But playing on the main stage is gonna be good! Just a better atmosphere. The tent was fine, coz it was like a big stage and a tent. And the tent was smaller, and we played in the afternoon… so it wasn’t exactly the right time of the day. So hopefully the main stage will be quite fun. And it’s also a good chance for us to get some exposure.
A: Yeah, that’s really good! Now last year, apparently you guys were there. Was there any band that made you think like, “Wow! That’s the spotlight, that’s the headline of the whole Rockit”!?
AA: Hmmm… let me think…
DA: Electric Eel Shock!
All: Yeah!!! They’re great!
AA: It was unfortunate that Supergrass didn’t come…. Coz that was what I really really wanna see.
DA: Yeah… HINT HINT!
AA: So COME!
A: Yeah! Electric Eel Shock was really good!
AA: Yeah. They were excellent. The music was not exactly our taste.
DA: They just had the presence!
AA: Yeah, the presence’s great! And the Regurgitator as well, I’ve seen them a lot on TV and stuff before. But they’re just great performers!
A: Alright let’s hope that Audiotraffic will be rocking it up at Rockit! And Good luck to all of you! Hopefully when you come back to Hong Kong, we can catch you again.
All: Thank you.
