Simple, succinct and to the point! Takkyu Ishino guru of Japanese electronica might be colourful in his ways of music production, evolution and tastes, but is a man of few words!
He talks to HKclubbing about his music ahead of headlining Lotion’s Handover party on the June 30th.
Nilly: How do you feel about DJ-ing in HK for the 10th handover anniversary? Takkyu: It’s a part of history! I am proud about it. Nilly: Have you been to HK before for parties? What are your feelings about the city and the party people? Takkyu: I think that HK people are powerful and stylish. I like it a lot. Nilly: Who or what got you into music? Takkyu: Old electronic music artists like Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra and acid house. Nilly: You have shifted your style of music over time. How would you describe your style of music then to your style now? Takkyu: If I describe it, it would be violently simple! The evolution since the early 90`s would be as follows, acid house> Detroit -ish techno> German trance> hard techno> Now! Nilly: What’s your favourite genre nowadays? Takkyu: All kinds of good electronic music. Nilly: Which artist/ artists do you think have the right attitude nowadays? Takkyu: Yurayura Teikoku, the Japanese No1 rock band! Nilly: Tell us a bit about your duo ‘Denki Groove’? What does ‘Denki Groove’ mean? Do you and your other half still make music together? Takkyu: The other guy from Denki, Pierre Taki is an actor now. We do not make music together! Nilly: After going solo, you named your first release ‘Dove loved Dub’. Is there a meaning behind it, or just a play on words? Takkyu: Yes, it is kind of a play on words. There was a very popular ecstacy called dub in early 90`s. and also there was an artist called ‘Brothers Love Dub’ in those days. So this is a combination of the two to define the time! Nilly: Are you still actively working on Loopa projects? Takkyu: Not at moment. Nilly: Was your latest album ‘Titles’ specifically released for theoverseas audience? What was the reception of it? Did you release something for Japan? Takkyu: Actually, Title 1, Title 2 and Title 3 were released in Japan. Titles is a smaller version of the previous Title projects in Japan. Interview: Nilly Chaudhuri
