 Bodhi – original founder of HKs first regular breakbeat night BEATSUITE talks to HKClubbing.
Now one half of UNCUT DOPE with AKW and also founder of ERRATICA with Dan F and Simon Pang has been a dedicated breakbeat DJ for 10 years who has been a genuine champion of the breakbeat sound regardless of current trends or fashions.
Q2: What kind of music do you play?
Breakbeat across the board
Q3: Who’s your biggest musical influence?
Good friend, teacher and mentor Elite Force and also my father who taught me to love music.
Q4: What makes you wanna DJ? And how did you start your career?
Not hearing the music I liked played out made me want to do something about it, so I started my own club night playing music I liked… I was 18 and at college in the UK. The reason to play is still the same.
Q5: Favorite track of the year?
“Reclaim the airwaves” by Elite Force
Q6: Best thing about playing a live set?
Smiling faces.
Q7: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Holding on to my walking stick but still jumping up and down behind the decks.
Q8: When can we expect (a new album / an album) from you?
Been quiet on the production front lately. I record breaks with Black Dragon and do more chill out dub stuff with Bass Cadets.. We’ve all been busy on other stuff this year though.
Q9: Tell us about the latest project you’re working on.
Designing a limited edition trainer and Tshirt collection for Reebok as part of my ST/ART street art project.
Q10: Where are you currently performing?
Yumla in HK, Madame Z in Shanghai
Q11: Is this a full time job or do you also have a job during the day and if yes, what is it?
My full time job is my graphic design studio – www.chinastylus.com

Q13: If there was a DJ that you could spin with on the same night who would it be?
The late John Peel – it would be so inspiring and enlightening an yet not too serious all at once. The man is a legend and has done more for new music than almost anyone else on the planet. |
