My name is Philip Goodall,I’ve been a DJ for over 10 years, im from England, but I’ve been living in Asia for seven years,im currently the resident DJ at The Venue in Wanchai.
Q2: What kind of music do you play?
Everything and anything, but personally I’m a bit of a house freak, that’s my favourite tipple, but I’ll play whatever it takes.
Q3: Whos your biggest musical influence?
Probably my parents, they were always listening to music when I was a kid,I think the first ever record I owned was Daddy Cool!!!!!!,I kept playing it over and over again on one of them old record players, ypu know the ones where you could stack them up in the midlle and they would drop down automatically and start playin?.....no,I didn’t you would!!!!!
Q4: What makes you wanna DJ? And how did you start your career?
I love mixing tracks together, mixing different genres,it’s a good feeling when you drop a real good mix and you see the crowd reaction,it makes your hair stand up,I still get that feeling, even now. I started out DJing back in my hometown,Whitehaven,England,I’d watch the dj at the under 18’s disco, then I started dropping a few tracks, and then suddenly I was beat mixing, then one night, the other Dj didn’t turn up for the over 18’s and the manager asked me if I would do it,I said yeah and shit myself all night, but it was good funand it went quite well, then I just kept doing it and here I am now.
Q5: Favorite track of the year?
That’s always a tough question, but one track that stands out is Axwell’s mix of Hard Fi – Hard To Beat, that’s a really great track,he’s doing some really good remixes at the moment.
Q6: Best thing about playing a live set?
Not knowing whats gonna happen next,(anything could happen in the DJ booth, know what I mean!!!!)
Q7: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I think I’ll still be in Asia,I love it here,Hong Kong is a really amazing city,I think people just take it for granted.
Q8:When can we expect (a new album/an album from you?
Ask Ricky Swan!!,we been trying to get into the studio for a while, its just tryin to find the time, its very time consuming, there might be a track around soon, but no plans for an album yet unless it’s a mixed compilation.
Q9: Tell us about the latest project you’re working on.
A bottle of Absolut vodka, what else!!!!,its great,I should be finished soon.
Q10: Where are you currently performing?
I just finished a residency in Phuket,Thailand and now I’m the resident in The Venue in Wanchai,I’ve also been known to play a few sets in The Bridge in Wanchai in the early hours of the weekend.
Q11: Is this a full time job or do you also have a job during the day and if yes, what is it?
Job in the day,you must be joking,I don’t get home until the day.
Q12:Final words for fans in Hong Kong?
Come down to The Venue in Wanchai and we can catch up on a few beers and a few choonz,im there Tuesday thru Saturday, see ya there.
Q13: If there was a DJ that you could spin with on the same night who would it be?
Theres lots, but Eric Morillo or Steve Lawler would be an amazing experience,im sure.
