DJ Interview: DJ Remy

What’s your real name?
Remy Creado

Describe yourself in five words.
Hot, Happening, Rocking, Cool & Full On Energy [ and you can see it when im at the decks]

What’s your music style?
Funky, Tribal, Progressive - be it Desi or English, always love playing uptempo stuff.

How did you get interested in DJing and when did you start?
I was a jazz ballet dancer dancing along with my buddy “Arshad Warsi”[MUNNABHAI MBBS] and djing happened by chance & also perhaps because of the love for music & rhythm. I started way back in the golden years of clubbing in Bombay, 1989.

Who and what are your key influences for working in the music industry?
David Morales, R.D Burman, Madonna, Himesh Reshamiya and DJ Whosane.
R.D Burman was part of my growing up years and loved grooving to his tunes. DJ Whosane introduced me to the world of Recording studios and music production. David Morales taught me the values of music tight production. Himesh taught me how to market music and Madonna how to perform and captivate an audience

What was your most memorable gig and why?
Club Sugar was memorable as it just went on & on with out any real effort plus loved the entire dhols n sitars team, they really got the best out of me. The hong kong crowd was gr8 need I say more. Another memorable gig was at the Kandy Club, Dubai huge dj console, huge crowd and huge on entertainment.

Ever had any embarrassing moments while spinning live?
Yup, a few, when I wud pick the needle of the turntable that was playin & once when a lady threw her bra at me, it was really stinky.

Your 5 ultimate dancefloor tunes.
1.    Axel F[ it will always keep comin bak]
2.    Stayin Alive [ evergreen]
3.    Like A Prayer[ will be an anthem forever]
4.    Jhumma Chumma [ as big as the big b]
5.    Mehbooba [I don’t think anybody can sing it as gud as Mr. R.D Burman & heats up any desi dance floor]

What hobbies and interests consume your time off the turntables and out of the studio?
1.    Jogging & Yoga.
2.    Playing Pianos And Keyboards
3.    Discovery Channel
4.    Space Research And Medical Discoveries

What did you think of the Hong Kong crowd?
Gr8, amazing and a live wire[very interactive].

What appeals to you most about a DJ’s lifestyle?
Music makes u one with nature, puts at peace with ure self and teaches how to deal with the ups n downs of life.

One thing you would change about the music industry.
Make talent count. opportunities should go to the truly talented not to the rich who’s money and powerful family back grounds buys influence in the music industry .
Music Company Executives, Who F**k The Artist for Their Own Job Security

Any future plans?
Owning my own night club, having a world class studio and making an international house Style album with various artists around the world with an Indian flavour to it.

We hope to see DJ Remy back in Hong Kong some time soon.  In the meanwhile, stay locked on to Asian Flava for more upcoming events and parties.
