February 20th, 2008—97 Group turns 25 years old this month. But those of you too cool for school knew that already. And those of you so hip it hurts also already know that we’ve had a fancy remodeling job, boast a swish new look and now feature Lan Kwai Fong’s first wine bar.
But do you know who… --the world famous rap group was who once walked through our doors and put on an impromptu performance? --Or the world famous actress who snubbed our ever popular Eggs Benedict in favor of something a bit more vegan? --Or the two actors—best known for playing James Bond—who came into our venue and ordered something that wasn’t shaken or stirred? Give up? Well some people in this city do know the answers to those questions. We call them the LKF veterans, those who have been here so long, they remember when Christian Rhomberg opened our humble 24 hour venue back in 1982. For those cherished 97 of you who remember those days, and can even recall what a DD’s was, we’d like to invite you to a strictly special black tie only affair on February 25th. The drinks will be flowing all night long and the soulful U.S. singer Bonnie Anderson will be crooning along with Tomos Griffiths, the original Phantom Of The Opera singer, the five piece acapella act Typhoon and the best DJs in the city from the last 25 years. It promises to be an evening to reminisce, regale and recharge… Loved 97 and vaguely recall that Middle Eastern restaurant we owned called Mecca’ 97? Spent many a night on the late, great Petticoat Lane? Claim to be our best friends and been here for at least 15 years? We’ll be thrilled to celebrate with you that night at Club ’97, where we’ll have a free flowing bar for a couple hours and the tunes your Ipod can only dream of. As for you Johnny Come Latelys, you young whippersnappers who remember when the new QBar was CClub, who recognize that the ’97 Group is much more than a restaurant and bar group AND who know that a night in “Lan Kwai” could mean a great night spent people watching at La Dolce Vita, we’d like to toast all our new friends there with a few drinks on the house. So watch for your invites for a night you’ll never forget at Post ’97, Club 97 and La Dolce Vita on February 25th. After 25 amazing years, this is still where people meet!
