ImageAfter the opening of the first licensed Billabong specialty store in Hong Kong on Pak Sha Road in Causeway Bay on September 1st, .  Billabong is pushing board sports a step forward by providing a rare opportunity for Hong Kong people to witness first hand the technique of four world-renowned Billabong professional skateboarders. The Billabong Skate Jam Hong Kong 2006 will be held on November 18th (Saturday.)  The aim of this event is to facilitate the exchange of experiences between Billabong Pro-skaters and the local Hong Kong skateboard community.

 Billabong Skate Jam Hong Kong 2006 features three 3 main activities:
1. Skate Workshop Co-organized by Billabong & Six Keyz;
2. Skate Jam by Billabong Pro-Skaters;
3. DJ Party Featuring Turntablist DJ Dexter, DJ Blackjack & DJ Jason F

Skate Workshop Co-organized by Billabong & Six Keyz
Billabong as a worldwide brand for board sports apparel and supplies, has invited the collaboration from Six Keyz, a significant local skateboarding group, to be the consultant for the venue of this event. The aim of this event is to promote skateboarding to the Hong Kong public.  The Billabong Skate Workshop is to be held at the indoor Six Keyz Skateable Art Gallery.  Four Billabong Pro-skaters will be traveling to Hong Kong from Australia to demonstrate their skateboard skills on the skateboard mini ramp and coach thirty students, from various local and international schools, how to skateboard.

Date: November 18, 2006 (Saturday)
Time: 12pm – 5pm
Venue: Six Keyz
   Unit 603 Chai Wan Industrial City, Phase 1

Billabong Skate Jam
Billabong Pro-skaters from Australia, Bart Carnes, Aaron Rowe, Jon Lorcan and Russell Grundy, will be demonstrating their skateboard skills on the mini ramp that was specially designed for this event by Six Keyz and they will also skate with local Pro-Skaters in a “Game of SKATE”. SKATE is a game played a lot like basketball's HORSE. You can play with as many skaters as you want, but usually there are only two skaters challenging each other. The skaters take turns trying to land tricks. Once one skater lands a trick, the other skater has to land the same trick, or he or she earns the first letter of the word SKATE. Once a skater spells out SKATE, that player loses.

Six Keyz Background Information:
Six Keyz ; a collective of local and overseas skateboarders, artists, musicians and designers, was officially formed in the Summer of 2006.  The Six Keyz gallery, an area of 1,200sq ft. with 18 ft. high ceilings is equipped with a skateboard mini ramp and it is capable of displaying large art installations. It is Hong Kong’s first “Skateable Art Gallery”, combining an art gallery with a skateboarding studio.

Apart from skateboarding, Six Keyz is also involved in multimedia arts creations, like music, photography and graphic design. Through networking and influences from different aspects, Six Keyz represents a major force in promoting both Hong Kong local Skateboarding and Arts development. Some people have termed what they do as ‘SKART’ or skateboard art–the founders describe this as promoting creativity through skateboarding and art. Along with working with local artists like Simon Birch a.k.a. DJ Blackjack, Six Keyz has established ties to the fine arts community through their established relationship with Hong Kong’s 10 Chancery Lane Gallery. Their recent exhibition “Outside Context Problem” presented by 10 Chancery Lane Gallery at Six Keyz featured local and international artists Simon Birch, Huang Rui, Li Wei, Cang Xin, Wing Shya, Anthony Lam, Anothermountainman and Tatsuyuki Tanaka.

Coming up in December, Six Keyz will be introducing a new exhibition on New York graffiti.  Long time partners in crime from New York City, Pen1 and Drift will team up at Six Keyz to produce a graffiti art exhibition entitled "BURN". This will take place on December 7th at Six Keyz. When asked what the "BURN" exhibition was about both artists agreed, "It's about burning. If you're not sure what that means, it's graffiti lingo, come check out the exhibit to understand”.  Six Keyz is set to create Hong Kong’s finest sanctuary of creative expression.

Founder and Hong Kong Skater, Andy Lee
“Not only do we understand skaters’ needs for a private, hassle-free skating ground, we also realize skaters’ love for street art. Six Keyz was thus established to provide a private venue for skaters and artists to meet and collaborate”

Founder and Graffiti Artist, Drift
“Six Keyz displays creative artworks in various forms, recognizing the outstanding talents and superior standard of local artists and designers and at the same time introducing our local pro-skaters’ names to the world.  As Hong Kong weather is humid and warm, outdoors skating is not comfortable. That is why we built an indoor skateboarding spot, making skateboarding convenient and more enjoyable as a sport.”

New York Graffiti exhibition entitled “BURN” with artists Drift and Pen1 will take place at Six Keyz on December 7th at 8pm.

Date: December 7th, 2006 (Thursday)
Time: 8pm – 12pm
Venue: Six Keyz
   Unit 603 Chai Wan Industrial City, Phase 1
 60 Wing Tai Road, Chai Wan, Hong Kong
