Le Rideau hosts Afro-Caribbean night, featuring African singer-songwriter Thierry Nkeli Faha and DJ Pele
On Friday April 13, Le Rideau Theatre Café presents Togolese guitarist, singer and poet Thierry Nkeli Faha, followed by African DJ Pele, who will spin Afro-Caribbean tunes. Tickets cost $50 at the door. The music starts at 9pm.
Considered one of the best new musicians to emerge from French-speaking Africa, Thierry Nkeli Faha writes uplifting songs that blend African rhythms and Jazz with French sounds and African melodies. Written in French, Mina (the language of the West African coast), and other African languages such as Ouolof and Dioula, his lyrics speak of peace, hope, love and faith. His soulful singing and folk-, jazz- and rock-inspired guitar playing invite listeners to swing, sway and smile. The African musician spent time performing in Hong Kong two years ago at the invitation of the local Alliance Francaise and launched his second album “Avanyo” in Hong Kong as part of the Fete de la Musique. He also played at Rockit Festival in 2005 and has performed in Africa, North America, France and Asia.
Le Rideau Theatre Café is Hong Kong’s only performing arts bistro: a restaurant, bar, lounge and performing arts venue, dedicated to staging regular music and theatre events. The centrally located arts hub brings live music, theatre and other performances into a comfortable, intimate space, enhancing the experience of live performances for both audience members and performers. The restaurant serves lunch from 12pm-2:30pm, dinner from 6pm-10:30pm, and bar snacks are available from 2:30pm-midnight. Daily happy hour runs from 4pm-7pm.
