Le Rideau partners with The Comedy Tour to bring famous US comedians to Hong Kong and China
Wednesday, 04 April 2007
From Thursday April 19 to Saturday April 21, Le Rideau Theatre Café will host ChopSchticks, an evening of non-stop laughs featuring US stand-up comics Paul Provenza and Jamie Kilstein. The three consecutive evenings of comedy are being brought in association with The Comedy Tour, and represent the last stop on the circuit, which includes Beijing and Shanghai.
Tickets cost $300 and are available at Le Rideau. The shows start at 9pm every night.
Headliner Paul Provenza is a critically acclaimed comedian, with over two decades of experience as a comic, writer, actor, director and producer in television, theatre and film. He has appeared on all the major talk shows, including The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show starring Jay Leno and has appeared at comedy festivals around the world. Among his many successes was the recent film The Aristocrats, a controversial documentary featuring a who's who in comedy stars, which he directed and co-produced. Provenza has been called "a standup with a heart and a brain" by The Village Voice, "outstanding" by the New York Times' Frank Rich and "bloody brilliant" by The List in the UK.
Jamie Kilstein, who will open for Provenza, is a young new comic, spoken word artist and internationally published writer, who is fast becoming a rising star in the world of comedy. He has performed at venues such as Comedy Central's Luna Lounge, The Paramount Theater, The Oakland Metro Opera House and The Comedy Store, and was featured at The Boston Comedy Festival, The New York Underground Comedy Festival and Brighton Arts Festival in Brighton, England, among others. New York Times best-selling author Josh Kilmer-Purcell wrote: "Kilstein's hilarious performance proves that when it comes to saving the world from itself, mockery is the sincerest form of warfare."
The Comedy Tour was known in Hong Kong in the late 90s for its ongoing presentations of ChopSchticks, which brought North American comics to Hong Kong audiences. This is the first of several planned comedy events to be held at le Rideau throughout the year in association with The Comedy Tour.
Richard Robinson, founder of The Comedy Tour, will MC the shows.
Le Rideau Theatre Café is Hong Kong's only performing arts bistro: a restaurant, bar, lounge and performing arts venue, dedicated to staging regular music and theatre events. The centrally located arts hub brings live music, theatre and other performances into a comfortable, intimate space, enhancing the experience of live performances for both audience members and performers. The restaurant serves lunch from 12pm-2:30pm, dinner from 6pm-10:30pm, and bar snacks are available from 2:30pm-midnight. Daily happy hour runs from 4pm-7pm.
