Local businesses support 10th anniversary of V-Day celebrations and raise funds for refugee women in Hong Kong!
Six events planned for March 2008 culminating in a four night performance of The Vagina Monologues at The Fringe Studio The Hong Kong V-Day team is pleased to announce five new activities to support the V-Day global movement and raise funds for refugee women living in Hong Kong. Proceeds from these events will be handed over to Christian Action’s women’s emergency fund, with 10 percent going to the V-Day global movement. Last year HK$100,000 was raised. This year to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the V-Day movement, the Hong Kong organizers hope to increase funds raised by 50 percent with a range of fund raising activities that will kick off on International Women’s Day – 1 March 2008. These include: 1 March - DJs, cocktails and burlesque dancers at Bed, 57-59 Lower Ground Floor, Wyndham Street 4 March – ladies only night at Les Peches The Lounge, Fong Underground, 8 March – ‘Crawl for a Cause’. Pub crawl with Igor's Group selling special V-Day cocktails 15 March – female talent night at Swindlers, Wanchai 16 March – art exhibition at Solas, Wyndham Street, Soho These events will culminate in the benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues, which will be held from 25 to 29 March 2008 at the Fringe Studio. Two versions of the show will take place in Cantonese on 25-26 March and two in English 28-29 March. Many local businesses have pledged their support for these activities including the Igor Group, Café O, Les Peches, Secret Wardrobe, Curves, Benefit pilates, The Economist and Kronenbourg 1664. Organiser, Danielle Spencer said: “We have brought together a group of very talented women to perform at the benefit performances of Eve Ensler’s world famous play, The Vagina Monologues. To raise even more funds than ever before we’ve organized some really entertaining activities throughout March that include talent and comedy nights, clubs and art exhibitions. We are extremely grateful to all the organizations that are supporting us this year whether through raffle prizes, sponsorship or providing free venues.
