Revellers in The Captain’s Bar at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong can look forward to jazz and gospel music performances by Howard McCrary from 6 March until 9 June 2007.

Howard McCrary has worked with a diversity of names, from Quincy Jones, Chaka Khan and Diana Ross to Nina Simone, Curtis Stigers and Andrae Crouch. His takes on classic tracks and lively original compositions have earned him a reputation as one of the U.S.’s hottest jazz and gospel entertainers.

Originally from Ohio, McCrary was raised as one of ten children in a musical family and began professional performances as part of a sibling group, The McCrarys, in the early 70’s. He was nominated at the Grammy’s for ‘Best Gospel Performance, Male’ after his first solo album and has gone on to write for the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, perform across Europe and appear in popular musicals such as Mama, I want to Sing.

Passionate about social causes, he was Music Minister for the renowned West Angeles church, LA in the 80’s, has mentored young EMI Records artists and is involved in plans to launch a new millennium television network with a “youth-orientated humanitarian core.” As both an entrepreneur and masterful musician, Howard McCrary has much to celebrate as he continues to find new ways to express his boundless artistry and multiplicity of talent.

The Captain's Bar enjoys a convenient location next to the main hotel entrance on the ground floor of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. Favoured by the local business community, it is particularly popular for drinks at the end of the working day and live jazz-inspired music in comfortable surroundings.

The Captain's Bar opened its doors with the hotel in 1963, and received its latest facelift as part of the hotel’s overall USD $140 million renovation last year. The familiar red walls and chessboard screens were restored along with the same-design bar tables.  The mural wall has been replaced with ornate mirrors and intricate artwork.

McCrary will entertain hotel guests and the local community alike Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 9:00pm to 12:45am plus every Friday & Saturday from 9:00pm to 1:45am until 6 June 2007. The Captain’s bar is open Monday to Saturday from 11:00am until 2:00am and on Sunday from 11.00am to 1.00am.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is the award-winning owner and operator of some of the world’s most prestigious hotels and resorts, currently operating 21 luxury hotels with a further 10 under development in Prague (2006), Riviera Maya-Mexico, Hainan Island-China, Barcelona (2007), Boston and Grand Cayman (2008), Dallas, Chicago, Las Vegas and Macau (2009). In total, Mandarin Oriental now operates, or has under development, almost 9,000 rooms in 16 countries with 14 hotels in Asia, 12 in the Americas and five in Europe.
