Mega Ice today announced the 2008 Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament will be held from April 29th to May 10th at the Mega Ice, the first and only venue in Hong Kong to be able to host International games. The tournament will feature over 60 ice hockey teams around the world. Powerhouses like Japan, Toronto, Beijing and United Arabs Emirates will send out competitive teams to compete for the greatest ice hockey glory at the Mega Ice.
World Class Ice Hockey Showing at Mega Ice The 2008 Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament will be divided into two divisions; Youth will be held from Apr 29th to May 3rd and the Adults will be from May 6th to May 10th. The tournament will provide the Hong Kong public the opportunity to watch the world class ice hockey games. United Arabs Emirates, the champion of the Bangkok International Ice Hockey Tournament last year, will participate in the International A Division. They will play against local giants, such as the Tigers, who has numerous top Division One players. As the event organizer, Mega Ice will also invite four professional referees from Vancouver, Canada to be the officials for the Mega Ice 5’s. Keith Fong, Tournament Director and Deputy General Manager of Mega Ice said, “This year’s event will be the largest Ice Hockey tournament in Asia in terms of the number of teams. It will have very strong representation at both local and international levels. In terms of quality, the 2008 Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament will definitely have the strongest competition ever in Hong Kong Ice Hockey’s history.” Young Guns From Penguins To Show Skills in Mega Ice 5’s Organized by Mega Ice, the Penguins is an ice hockey program specifically designed for ice hockey players mainly at the beginner level. Numerous ice hockey teams from Penguins will actively participate in the tournament in the Youth Divisions. The 2008 Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament not only can act as a platform for the Hong Kong players to polish their skills, but also provides a priceless opportunity for them to learn from the world class international teams. More than 30 youth teams, with players aged 6 to 17, from the South East Asian countries including China, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and the host, Hong Kong, will compete for the glory of Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament. With one-third of participating teams are coming from Hong Kong, it shows the ice hockey is getting more popular and such trendy sport has been rapidly developing in Hong Kong. 2008 Mega Ice 5’s Hockey Tournament will be held in the Hong Kong’s first and only international ice rink – Mega Ice.
