On Wednesday Feb 28, Spanish tap dance whiz Guillem Alonso will make music with his feet in a special evening of tap set to live jazz. The Barcelona-born dancer will appear with fellow tap dancers from the locally-based Tap Ensemble Anthony Suen, Ki Wong, Ken Kwok and Eve Leung, and dancer Alexander Hsieh from Singapore. The first set kicks off at 9pm. Tickets will be available at the door for HK$100, which includes one standard drink. A member of acclaimed tap and percussion company Camut Band, Alonso went to New York to study tap dance with some of the field’s pre-eminent dancers, among them Brenda Bufalino, Barbara Duffy and Savion Glover. He has toured the world with some of America’s most renowned tap companies and created and performed his own original works across Europe. With Camut Band, Alonso has helped to create several shows, including Life is Rhythm, which was staged on Broadway and the West End, Booguie Wooguie Tap and Tap Olé. As a leader in the tap community, Alonso has inspired a new generation of tap dancers in his native Barcelona. Established in 2002 by Chairman Anthony Suen, Hong Kong dance group Tap Ensemble is committed to spicing up the art form of tap dance by enhancing its theatricality. Its members, graduates of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, have extensive experience on and off stage in dance and musical theatre. Le Rideau Theatre Café is Hong Kong’s only performing arts bistro: a restaurant, bar, lounge and performing arts venue, dedicated to staging regular music and theatre events. The centrally located arts hub brings live music, theatre and other performances into a comfortable, intimate space, enhancing the experience of live performances for both audience members and performers. The restaurant serves lunch from 12pm-2:30pm, dinner from 6pm-10:30pm, and bar snacks are available from 2:30pm-midnight. Daily happy hour runs from 4pm-7pm. 1/F Hilltop Plaza 49 Hollywood Road Tel. 2850 8833 Fax. 2815 0009
