MEGU opens in Hong Kong

Japanese Fine Dining at the Stylish Elements Development

The award-winning Japanese fine dining restaurant MEGU from New York has soft opened in Hong Kong at the stylish new Elements development in the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Hong Kong.

The luxurious restaurant is spread over 6,200sq ft and two levels, featuring a variety of chic entertaining areas including an 80-seat main dining room with one-of-a-kind circular sushi bar,  two outdoor terrace’s, second-floor bar and dining lounge with seating for 24 and a semi-private 12-person dining space.

MEGU, meaning ‘blessing’ in Japanese, aims to take ultra-fine Japanese dining to a new level in Hong Kong, by offering the finest organic and seasonal ingredients prepared with the authenticity and purity of classical Japanese cuisine, but updated with a contemporary twist.  Instead of focusing on the fusion of Japanese with cuisines from around the globe, MEGU blends the history of authentic Japanese cuisine by serving modern Japanese food that is rooted in 2,000 year old culinary traditions and cultures. Many of the premium ingredients featured at MEGU are sourced from a proprietary network of specialist producers and growers in Japan.

Signature dishes on the extensive menu include a selection of the best ingredients available such as Grilled Smelt ‘Shishamo’ with Roe from Hokkaido, Premium Wagyu Steak ‘Kagerou Yaki’ – Hennessey Flambé Stone Grill and Sweet Shrimp in Kanzuri Spicy Cream.

To complement the exciting and inventive menu, MEGU offers an extensive wine list with over 300 varieties from around the world including over 20 served by the glass.  The sake list is one of the largest in Hong Kong offering a wide-ranging selection of over 40 varieties with knowledgeable staff available at all times to guide diners through their wine or sake choices.

The bar and restaurant also hold a comprehensive Champagne and cocktail list with signature cocktails such as ‘Blessing’ – a blend of Strawberry, Vodka, Triple Sec, Pom and Lemon Juice and ‘Blushing Geisha’ – a mix of Raspberry, Absolut Raspberry, Jack Daniels, Lemon Juice and Syrup.

MEGU offers a spectacular dining environment that complements the exquisite food and drinks and plays an integral role in the MEGU experience.

Using traditional Japanese craftsmanship such as Edo-kiriko cut glass, Yuzen kimono fabric, intricate bamboo weaving and wood carved motifs and natural materials such as clay, porcelain and stone, renowned interior designer Yasumichi Morita has created a sexy, dynamic and contemporary environment that is both serene and inspiring.  Morita was responsible for the design of the two MEGU restaurants in New York and is also working on the ultra-stylish W Hotel in Hong Kong which will open in close proximity to MEGU next year.

The first MEGU opened in the heart of New York in 2004, and was followed by a second location in the Trump World Tower, also in New York, in 2006.  Both gained much critical acclaim and are popular hangouts for international celebrities.

MEGU in Hong Kong is the first MEGU outside of the U.S. and signals the beginning of global expansion for the brand, with London, South Beach Miami and Las Vegas all slated for the future.

“It is such a pleasure to see so many Hong Kong residents truly enjoying themselves and their surroundings at MEGU.  I feel that they really appreciate the authenticity of our modern Japanese cuisine and avante guarde presentation.  We are thrilled to bring to the people of Hong Kong more and more unique and exciting ingredients and wonderful surprises from Japan,“ states Hiro Nishida, President of Food Scope America, the U.S. arm of the Tokyo-based company which owns MEGU.

MEGU will be celebrating its Grand Opening in Hong Kong on Thursday 8th November when they will introduce the full a la carte menu.

MEGU is currently open for lunch and dinner reservations.
