New York’s award-winning Japanese fine dining restaurant MEGU launches in Hong Kong this October, at the stylish new Elements development in the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Hong Kong. MEGU, meaning ‘blessing’ in Japanese, aims to take ultra-fine Japanese dining to a new level in Hong Kong, by offering the finest organic and seasonal ingredients prepared with the authenticity and purity of classical Japanese cuisine, but with a contemporary twist. Instead of focusing on the fusion of Japanese with cuisines from around the globe, MEGU blends the history of authentic Japanese cuisine by serving modern Japanese food that is rooted in 2,000 year old culinary traditions and cultures. Many of the premium ingredients featured at MEGU are sourced from a proprietary network of specialist producers and growers in Japan. The upscale restaurant is spread over 6,200sq ft and two levels, featuring a variety of chic entertaining areas including an 80-seat main dining room with one-of-a-kind circular sushi bar, outdoor terrace, second-floor bar lounge with seating for 24 and a semi-private 12-seat dining space. MEGU offers a spectacular dining environment that complements the exquisite food and plays an integral role in the MEGU experience. Using traditional Japanese craftsmanship such as Edo-kiriko cut glass, Yuzen kimono fabric, intricate bamboo weaving and wood carved motifs and natural materials such as clay, porcelain and stone, renowned interior designer Yasumichi Morita has created a sexy, dynamic and contemporary environment that is both serene and inspiring. Morita was responsible for the design of the two MEGU restaurants in New York and is also working on the ultra-stylish W Hotel in Hong Kong which will be opening in close proximity to MEGU next year. The first MEGU opened in the heart of New York in 2004, and was followed by a second location in the Trump World Tower, also in New York, in 2006. Both gained much critical acclaim and are popular hangouts for international celebrities. MEGU in Hong Kong is the first MEGU outside of the U.S. and signals the beginning of global expansion for the brand, with London, South Beach Miami and Las Vegas all slated for the future. “We are very excited about opening the first MEGU outside of New York. MEGU’s concept of offering the finest traditional ingredients but in an ultra-stylish contemporary environment will carry to the Hong Kong location in a more decadent fashion as we can offer local specialties that are not available in America,” states Hiro Nishida, President of Food Scope America, the U.S. arm of the Tokyo-based company which owns MEGU. MEGU Address: R002-003 Elements, Kowloon Station, 1 Austin Road West, Hong Kong (information provided by the pr company)
