Retail Food Concept cookietherapy Opens First Outlet in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, 13 May 2008 – New luxury cookie retailer cookietherapy opens its first outlet in Hong Kong today at Shop 103A, New Town Plaza I, Shatin. Founded by celebrity chef Winne Lau with the belief that “cookies make the world a better place,” cookietherapy is a wholesome food concept that aims to provide “therapy for the heart and soul” through comfort foods and intimate gift ideas. Cookietherapy products are also 100% trans-fat free.

“The cookietherapy concept was inspired by the comfort that I associate with receiving and enjoying freshly baked cookies,” said founder and managing director Winne Lau, an award winning executive chef and internationally recognised personality in the food and beverage industry. “My team and I started this business because I believe cookies can oftentimes be the antidote to today’s fast-paced, stressful lifestyle in Hong Kong.  We truly believe warm cookies have a therapeutic effect on those who eat them, so we want to spread these benefits through our range of freshly hand-baked cookies and desserts and beverages.”

Cookietherapy is offering a collection of ten cookie varieties at launch. Top of the range is its signature cookie the Big Hug, a classic chunky chocolate chip cookie.  Other flavours include Knight in White (white chocolate and macadamia nut), Orange Peck (chocolate and orange), and Sweet as Pie (maple and pecan nut). A full list of cookies with descriptions is available at www.cookie-therapy.com.

For customers that want to deliver a heartfelt message with cookies, cookietherapy offers three kinds of gift packaging: One Sweet kiss ($14), for a single cookie in a ribbon-wrapped gift box; Box of Love ($100) for ten cookies of any combination; and Box of Hugs ($120) for any choice of 12 cookies, both in an elegant baby-blue and white gift box with room for a personal message.

Cookietherapy also sells cakes and desserts, including signature dessert Panna Cotta, a light and silky smooth custard made to Chef Lau’s own recipe and served with homemade fruit compote.  Lau also created a variety of tempting compote flavour combinations such as blueberry and wildberry, pineapple and mint, raspberry and apple, and strawberry and rhubarb.

Cookietherapy also offers a wide selection of muffins and cakes and brownies such as apple and blackberry crumble, deep Dutch and rocky road brownies, blueberry swirl cheesecake, tiramisu, and triple chocolate fudge cake. To complement the cookies, cakes and deserts, cookietherapy also offers a variety of drinks including dark-roasted Italian coffee, natural fruit juices and organic herbal teas.

At the cookietherapy shop, decorated in relaxing cream and baby blue colours, in-shop “therapists” greet customers with a smile while calming French jazz music plays, and aromas from baking cookies, brewing coffee and herbal teas permeate the air.  All these elements combine to reflect the distinctive character of cookietherapy.

“Cookies really can make the world a better place, and we invite Hong Kong’s urban weary to join us and find out how,” said Winne Lau.
