Three Michelin-Stars to descend on Macau this November Three Michelin-Starred chef Alain Passard from Paris joins the line-up of masterchefs at Wine & Gourmet ASIA 2007 Wine & Gourmet ASIA 2007, a 5-day epicurean extravaganza of fine wine and gourmet events taking place in Macau, is pleased to announce its exciting lineup including the participation of renowned Three-Michelin-Starred chef Alain Passard of award-winning restaurant, L’Arpège from Paris. Hailed as a culinary “Impressionist” for pioneering new ways of cooking vegetables with flamboyant colours, entrancing aromas and unexpected flavors, Alain Passard will be showcasing his skills alongside renowned chefs Justin North from Bécasse in Sydney, David Laris from Laris in Shanghai, and Grant MacPherson from Wynn Las Vegas. Taking place from 6-10 November, the 5-day programme of exciting gastronomic events includes culinary masterclasses, gourmet lunches and dinners, and wine tasting masterclasses and vintner dinners. The headline of the 5-day programme is the not-to-be-missed Black Tie Gala Dinner on 9 November, where the masterchefs and guest chefs will together create an unforgettable evening of great food and fine wine. The event starts at 7pm and is hosted by Wynn Macau. Price per person is MOP$1,980 (US$250). Wine & Gourmet ASIA will be launched on 6 November with an Opening Reception, hosted by The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel, where a buffet of delights will be prepared ‘live’ by the hosting establishments’ culinary teams. The event starts at 6pm and costs MOP$880 (US$110) per person. Three-Michelin-Star chef Alain Passard creates an exciting night on 10 November with a showcase of his culinary expertise with vegetables at the Crown Macau. On 8 November, Masterchef Justin North of the famed Bécasse in Sydney presents a menu of sensational cuisine with a touch of’ down under’ at a Vintner Dinner hosted by Crown Macau. This acclaimed chef was recently awarded two “hats” – Australia’s own equivalent of the Michelin star – by the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide. His cuisine can also be enjoyed on 7-10 November during a series of lunch and dinner promotions at the hotel. Famed Shanghai-based chef David Laris of Laris at Three on the Bund will be presenting his menus which incorporate contemporary Asian, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences at a series of lunch and dinner promotions at the Mandarin Oriental Macau from 7-10 November. For those who wish to learn from the masters, Culinary Masterclasses with participating master chefs are hosted at both the Crown Macau and The Cotai Strip Convention and Exhibition Center at The Venetian® Macao-Hotel-Resort from 7 to 10 November. On 8 November, a wine tasting masterclass will be held courtesy of Château Cos d’EStournel at the Crown Macau. About Alain Passard French chef Alain Passard is famed for elevating the art of cooking vegetables to a new level in combination with herbs, spices, flowers, dairy products and shellfish. His passion for cooking began in his grandmother’s kitchen at the age of 10, and his career in classic cuisine began at one of Brittany’s first Michelin-starred restaurants, under Michel Kéréver at the Hôtellerie du Lion d’Or in Liffré. He subsequently developed his craft studying under Michelin-starred chefs Gaston Boyer at La Chaumiere in Reims and Alain Senderens at L’Archestrate in Paris. He commenced his solo career at the Casino of Enghien, in Brussels in 1980, where he became the youngest two Michelin-starred chef at the age of 26, before earning another two Michelin stars at Restaurant Carlton in Brussels. Chef Passard opened his own restaurant L’Arpège, in Paris, and was awarded the highest Michelin accolade in 1996.
