MULTI-PLATINUM SUPERSTARS JOIN LIST OF MUSICAL POWERHOUSES PERFORMING ON AUGUST 28th IN MIAMI
2005 VMAs To Include Appearances By Jessica Simpson, Lil Kim, Ricky Martin, Ashlee Simpson, Bow Wow, Eva Longoria, Nelly, Hilary Duff, Joel Madden, Ciara, Alicia Keys and More
MTV: Music Television today announced that multi-platinum selling superstars and musical icons Coldplay and 50 Cent have joined the line up of performers for the “2005 MTV Video Music Awards.” Hosted by Diddy, the 2005 VMAs will take place at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami. 50 Cent and Coldplay join a list of previously announced performers including Shakira, Ludacris, Mariah Carey, the Killers, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, and Green Day.
“The addition of 50 and Coldplay to the line up of performers solidifies the 2005 VMAs as the ultimate combination of hip-hop, rock, and pop on the planet,” said Christina Norman, President, MTV. “This year’s VMAs will have more music and more performances then ever before.”
It was also announced today that the 2005 VMAs will include appearances by some of the biggest names from the worlds of music, movies and television including Jessica Simpson, Lil Kim, Ricky Martin, Ashlee Simpson, Bow Wow, Eva Longoria, Nelly, Hilary Duff, Joel Madden from Good Charlotte, Ciara, and Alicia Keys, who join previously announced appearances by Usher, Jessica Alba, Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst, Lindsay Lohan, Joss Stone, Jeremy Piven, and Snoop Dogg. More appearances and performers will be announced in the coming days and weeks leading up to the August 28th event.
50 Cent’s video for “Candy Shop” is nominated for a VMA in the Best Male Video category. 50 Cent is also up for a Best Rap Video VMA along with The Game for “Hate It or Love It.” His latest release, The Massacre, has gone on to sell over 6 million copies worldwide, firmly establishing him as one of the reigning kings of hip hop. Earlier this year, 50 Cent accomplished something that no artist had done since the Beatles in 1964, landing four singles simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100. He has just wrapped production on his motion picture debut, “Get Rich Or Die Tryin’,” directed by Jim Sheridan (“In America” and “My Left Foot”).
Coldplay’s video for “Speed of Sound” is nominated for VMAs in the Video of the Year, Best Editing in a Video, Best Cinematography in a Video, and Best Special Effects in a Video categories. Coldplay is currently on its biggest world tour to date – the “Twisted Logic” tour – in support of X&Y, the follow-up to the band’s Grammy-winning, triple Platinum 2002 release, A Rush of Blood to the Head. X&Y, produced by Coldplay, Danton Supple and Ken Nelson, is the third album from the band, which has won four Grammy awards and sold over 25 million albums worldwide since its 1998 inception.
The 2005 VMAs will be presented for the first time on multiple MTV platforms this year giving viewers new ways to experience the show. Exclusively through MTV Overdrive, the network’s hybrid broadband channel, MTV viewers will have unprecedented access to the VMAs, beyond the TV screen.

The “2005 MTV Video Music Awards” will be available to a potential viewing audience of over 1 billion people via MTV’s 43 channels reaching 429.1 million households around the world as well as through syndication, and its convergent and original online programming will reach the entire online nation, via MTV’s 38 Web sites around the world.

The 2005 MTV Video Music Awards will air on MTV Southeast Asia at 2000hrs on the 10th of September and on MTV China 24-hrs Channel at 2300hrs on the 1st of October.
