Fatboy Slim’s Lifestyle Of the Rich & Famous

Norman ‘Fatboy Slim’ Cook chatted to the Sunday Times this week about partying on his 30 metre long galleon the Barracuda and revealed that he spent millions of pounds refitting the former German spy boat to superstar DJ standards.

“We wanted it to be anything but a bog-standard working boat,” Cook told the Times, “There are bathrooms rather than heads, there is a kitchen instead of a galley, and it’s all as homely as possible. We didn’t want a gin-palace
superyacht — we wanted something funky,” he added.

The newspaper directed readers interested in sailing on the ship luxury boutique hotel website Mr And Mrs Jones.com, where week long package trips are available for £20,000.

“It’s not every day that you get to brag about staying on a celebrity yacht. This 100-foot superstar super-boat – owned by DJ Norman Cook, Zoë Ball and their friends – is moored in Sardinia and ready to set sail,” the website states, “Classically restored and re-built to seriously wooden pirate ship standards, Barracuda is a charter yacht just dripping with name-dropping potential.”

Cook’s fellow superstar DJ Mauro Picotto also appeared in the British press chatting about his boat for hire in 2005, when he took Observer hack Tom Robbins for a ride on his £350,000 Sunseeker Superhawk 50 round Ibiza.

“Of course powerboats like this - a big pointy Sunseeker with a special
Arneson drive to give a huge plume of spray (and make it more stable or something) - are just penis extensions for the nouveau-riche, flash mid-life crisis materialism which under normal circumstances I'd be the first to sneer at from the harbour wall,” the Observer writer (almost) sneered.

“Except when you are actually on one, zooming past sailing boats at 45 knots, it's really rather fabulous,” he confessed, “The speed immediately kills the sweltering
midday heat, and makes everyone's hair fly back dramatically. It's like we've snuck into a Duran Duran video,” he added.
