London La Bomba’s Chav Exclusion Zone Ministry Of Sound’s monthly Latin/ reggaeton event La Bomba announced this week that they’re moving to the Scala from May, to make way for the Gallery to take over at the south London club every Friday. LA Bomba chief Jose was tight-lipped about the move, telling Skrufff the day before the announcement ‘we have been offered several large-scale venues on a Friday but we are not announcing our plans yet’, though was more forthcoming about the dress code of ‘casual but stylish’. “We draw the line at excessive sportswear like shellsuits (tracksuits) or chav style get up and non-fashion baseball caps,” he explained, “We also reserve the right to refuse groups of males unaccompanied by females unless they're gay so there's not groups of guys standing around gawping like other clubs. We’re different from the more serious, boys-y hip-hop or grime and dubstep-y nights where random males just stand round in groups nodding their heads, staring at the any female,” he added. Jose emphasised the club’s female friendly ethos generally and said their musical policy helps filter out pests. “In our experience girls love urban or bass-orientated beats and also Latin music and they find Latino men are generally more expressive and attentive without being intrusive,” he said. “Latino men love to dance as do British women, so there is an immediate attraction and now it is a trend for British guys to learn to dance salsa (it's apparently the new golf) and perreo (reggaeton dance) because of all the fit women. Having a tight door policy and encouraging dressing up adds to the club's popularity with women,” he added. La Bamba takes place at Ministry Of Sound (London) on Friday March 7. http://www.ministryofsound.com Article by Jonty Skrufff Subscribe to Skrufff music newsletter at www.Skrufff.com
