‘Really Old’ Tiesto Won’t Retire 40-something Dutch DJ Tiesto vowed to continue spinning indefinitely this week, in a U turn increasingly common amongst the world’s (increasingly ageing) top DJs. "I once said that I was going to stop when I'm 40 years old. But that was 10 years ago, when I thought 40 was really old,” Tiesto told the Boston Globe. “A lot of people my age are jealous that I still live like a kid. I go around the world partying all the time. I mean, look at the Rolling Stones. They're still doing it,” he pointed out. His views dovetailed neatly with those of still busy Dutch trance icon Ferry Corsten who ten years ago told Skrufff he was similarly considering quitting as he approached his thirtieth birthday. "I have this age in my head of 35 or 39 as being the ideal age to stop DJing,” Ferry mused, "Or perhaps in a couple of years I'll get sick and tired so much that I'll quit DJing altogether and go back in the studio to devote myself solely to producing." Meanwhile in Ibiza, Manumisssion/ Ibiza Rocks chief Andy McKay told Pacha magazine he believes there’s a ‘generational shift going on’ in club culture at present, suggesting Tiesto and Ferry’s future could be tougher than they imagine, “The next generation doesn’t want to dance to just dance music. They’re not into 30 and 40 somethings dancing to a 50 year old DJ,” said Andy, “The next generation is the ‘Fuck you, Dad!’ generation. Ibiza Rocks is very much part of that,” he added.
