ImageBertrand Le Pluard, aka B.L.P. or Bert, is a French ordinary witch on a day-to-day basis -- a ‘working mom’, artist, photographer, image maker, illiterate diarist, suburban freak, 99cents oracle, hippie whore, style remedy, anonymous consultant, digital dandy, socialized hermit, and ego shaman. Bert is busy with picturing, documenting, experimenting, performing, filming, writing, drawing, publishing, editing, art directing, consulting, traveling, exhibiting, improvising, and dreaming.

Since his childhood Bertrand has been a solitary night bird exploring all that's shady and damned. He took up painting instinctively as a teenager, producing apocalyptic landscapes he saw in his dreams, and started a personal photographic diary before enrolling at a prestigious university to study applied mathematics and political science. He joined a theatre group during his studies, set up a breakaway group as an actor until his passion pushed him towards photography.

Bert is a co-founded Bertof®, a multi-task art collective, publisher of Viscount magazine. He spent a year traveling through France commissioned by the French Ministry of Agriculture to modernize and re-define the image of the rural world. The exhibition he drew from his adventures was the basis for the national campaign raising awareness of sustainable approaches to the land. Back in Paris, he worked on several exhibitions which contributed to the club scenes and the up-and-coming fashion designers. At the same time, his tremendous interest in self-portraiture and fashion photography opens new territories and lead to permanent construction of the polymorphous world of characters and images. Since then, his work has appeared in numerous French and international magazines, often installing the press as an extension of his art projects.

When night is calling, nightclubs are refugees for many of us. It is a world of wonder where everything is possible and everyone can play... colors, behaviors, feelings, social classes, and hierarchies are blurred. Ring the bell, let go, and enter the other side of life.

“Night bell” is a photographic journey in the club scenes, a collection of images taken in Paris from 1999 to 2007 by Bert. It is a documentary of the ever changing night scenes. The exhibition at Philia is the first time these pictures shown in public and the 2nd exhibition will be followed in Paris in late 2008. Bert himself will be present in the opening event, as well as The Penelopes -- a French electro rock duo who will perform a DJ set to support the event.
