You Witnessed the Invasion, Now Welcome to the Countdown to Armageddon. Pick ya head up, it is now green lantern season. Poised to released his debut album on Shady/Interscope Records, Entitled Armageddon, in first quarter 2005, DJ Green Lantern aka The Evil Genius is dangerously close to laying waste to landscape of the DJ album much like he did in the mixtape world over 10 years ago. Why? Because DJ Green Lantern is not just a DJ, he’s an artist. And he’s not just and artist, he’s an Evil Genius.
Since being invited to join the Shady Family in 2002 as Eminem’s TOUR DJ, and signing his record deal with Shady Records in 2003, DJ Green Lantern has worked himself into a frenzy producing for himself and other artists, performing worldwide, and putting out the hottest mixtapes in the streets. The last year has seen Green produce a consecutive string of anthems beginning with Sheek Louch ‘ 2 Gunz UP’, the lead single for his D block LP. This instantly memorable hit was followed by Jadakiss ‘The Champ is Here’ a Green produced banger that shot instantly into heavey rotation on New York radio and became the official remix to Jada’s single ‘Times Up’. Finally, Green remix of the terror squad ‘Oh My God’ featuring Tony Sunshine, Fat Joe and Remy Martin is set to continue the TS airwave dominance for the entire summer of 2004. Needless to say, Green’s stock as a producer is firmly on the rise.
This Fact is no further evident than in the production of Armageddon. Centered around Green’s own production as well as some of the leading beat makers in the game, Armageddon is destined to be an instant classic. With appearances by the entire Shady clan including Eminem, D-12, 50 Cent, G-Unit, and Stat Quo, Armageddon will also feature tracks by luminaries like Fat Joe, Wyclef, ODB, Ghostface, T.I., Twista, and Bizzy Bone of Bone Thugs, making it possible the most diverse collaborative effort of its time. With the most exciting artists in the game filered through the mind of the Evil Genius, Armageddon will be like nothing anyone has ever heard before. Green offers a preview, “You can expect the same quality of performance and crazy sh*t you’ve heard on a Green Lantern mixtape with all the twists and turns. The difference is now I got a bigger canvas to work with and I get to use all the paint and paintbrushes I always wanted to use, ya dig?’
On the mixtape front, 2004 has been another banner year. Following the international attention garnered by the invasion series, Green dropped Tupac: Rap Phenomenon, an innovative mixtape that blended classic songs with new performances by contemporary artists. Released in conjunction with the anniversary of his death, Rap Phenomenon received attention all major publications as well as on MTV and in the Rolling Stone ‘Year In Rock’ issue. In the game based on exclusivity, Greene has prevailed by placing priority on how things are put together over simply what he play. ‘My style is what’s Exclusive, that’s how I look at it,’ he explains. ‘You’re, exclusively only get stuff the way my music is put together over here.
Finally, 2004 has also seen Green maintain a performance schedule that would rival many a foreign diplomat. Having toured Austrailia, Japan, Canada, Europe, Russia, Brasil, and most of the continental United States. Chances are, DJ Green Lantern is coming to a city near you.
