Fred Numf the well known DJ from Europe is set to perform in Hong Kong on the 12th November at Joint 15.
Fred has visited Hong Kong before so is not a stranger to the city. He will be coming around the same time Joint 15 will be two years old based in Causeway Bay.
Fred Numf is a wellrated DJ and producer worldwide, with a couple of toptracks with his mate Etienne Overdijk. Remixing Way Out West - Mindcircus, Tiesto - Lethal Industry and Hardy Heller tunes, he grown to a well respected jock. Black Hole gave him to offer to mix his compilations Universal Language. The first two UL cd's were both high in quality as in mixing. This time though, it is not a double album, but just one cd. Release on NEWS right now!
The Mix First tune that is served is Greed - Tea In The Sahara. A dark, deep track with great cut-up vocals. The atmosphere is quite nice, with a soulfull break in the middle. The vocals remind a little of Bjork and are incredibly tasty. The mixing into the next track is quality. The dark atmosphere continues in the next tune: throbbing beats, funky breakbeats intermezzo and a cool, moody vocal sample bring a smile on the face.
The atmosphere lightens up a little with Quivver's male vocal tune These Are The Days, which has been heavily supported by a long row of topjocks. Fred Numf included it as well with the swirling sounds and groovy bassline. Very nice! After this Fred focuses more on tribal house feel tunes again, with some minimalistic, bouncing tracks. Worth mentionable is the awesome tune D:Fuse - Zurich 6 AM, with again fantastic vocal sample and a great distorted sound.
Moving on with Ice on Fire, which is a quality atmospheric track with a neat melody. The bells in the track are very nice waven into the track, presenting a shiny trancey tune. Next up is Fred Numf's new single Hear An Echo, again produced with Etienne Overdijk. The Dub Mix has been used, where the melody from the Original mix is stripped down and now focuses on eclectic sounds and effects.
Here comes the surprise of the compilation for me. Mat Leutwyler & Jason Suzuki (sounds like 2 action hero figures) produced The Conteded Gastronome and what a quality tune that is. Funky, pushing bassline, with acid-influence retro synths. What a beautiful, toptrack. Awesome! The next tune is a funky tune by wellknown Steve Porter. This track sounds like a progressive house version of old action tv-series in the eighties. Very energetic with bouncing beats and a joyfull melody.
The mix is running thowards it's end and there comes the first disappointing tune. The vocals in Colombia by Tarrentella & Saffron sound quite horrible, while productionwise the tune is a massive track. The next track is smoothly mixed in taking some tempo down and adding some flowing strings in the background. Very dreamy stuff by Hi & Lo, excellent. The mix ends with Spanish guitar influenced progtrancer Spagia, produced by highly acclaimed Benz & MD.
Conclusion It has taken some time, but Universal Language is back and how! A fantastic, creative compilation with a great build-up and story. Atmosphere is the keyword in this eclectic mix that contains everything from dark prog, tribal house and tranzy melodies, but escpecially soul! Must have!
