DJ Arun R
Music Style: House (Deep/Funky/Jackin’/Soulful/Uplifting)

Arun has only been on the DJ circuit for around 2 years now.  His style has developed into what has become a fresh sound for House music that is currently highly sought after by clubs and venues in Hong Kong.  The niche factor is his varied and unique taste of music that influences his live sets – he is able to take a crowd through a journey of afro/latin-funk rhythms up to a peak of deep and melodic progressions, accompanied by jackin’ beats and basslines.

From 2007 onwards, Arun started to travel around China performing at venues in Zhongshan, Jinan, Guangzhou, Shanghai, as well as being invited to play at Elevate (India), voted 35th best Club in the world by DJ Magazine.

He has graced the decks for prestigious events like Hed Kandi, Ministry of Sound Sessions, and Renaissance Digital Asia Tour and Funky 4 Love, and has the opportunity to play alongside international DJs such as Paulo Mojo, Alex Botar (Diva La Disco), Andy Warburton, Luke Neville, Dennis Christopher (Beatfreakz), Dylan Barnes (Mutiny), Andy Norman, Patrick Hagenaar, Lewis Boardman and voted no.1 DJ in the world - Tiesto.  Arun has earned appraisal from some of the above names as ‘the perfect warm-up DJ’.

He has been invited to play at most key venues in the city, including internationally renowned M1NT, Drop, Solas, Volar, Club JJs, and the trendy Evisu Baru.  2008 promises to be even busier in Hong Kong – with several major events lined up for the year and new residencies both in the city and overseas.

Currently working with Entertaining Asia, he is also an Artist and Events Manager looking after a local DJ roster and handling events during the day.

Recent Residencies: Gecko Lounge, Aqua Spirit (No.3 Lounge in the World)

Tai Pan Dan
Music Style: House (Deep/Funky/Soulful/Uplifting)

Dan is a house DJ by pure passion.  His style has been heavily influenced by the US New York scene, where he mixes up filtered disco samples (and re-edited originals) with soulful house and a lot funky breaks.  His biggest inspiration is Kenny Dope Gonzales, and others include Louie Vega, (Masters At Work), Kerri Chandler, Dimitri from Paris, Joey Negro, DJ Spen, Karizma & Armand Van Helden.

Despite his young age, Dan holds a great track record of clubs that include the top end of the club guide in London: Fabric, Pacha, The Cross, The End, Lime Light, The Rocket Complex, Nylon and Sugar Reef.  Besides working with the biggest nightclubs, he also keeps his hands and ears busy with corporate clients, catering to them in high society venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Society of Arts, Grosvenor House and Noble Rot.

When off the decks, he’s in the studio busy with all sorts off work.  The back-end work of the music industry has paid off for him after working with DJs and Producers including Pete Tong, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), Seb Fontaine, Trevor Nelson, Gilles Peterson, and the Chemical Brothers.

Outside of the UK he has made solid coverage of Hong Kong, Sydney and even made an appearance at Euro Disney in Paris.  Now based in Hong Kong, Tai Pan Dan is set to push out the funkier sounds of house music at prominent venues, starting a new monthly residency with fellow DJ Arun R, called Opium Soul.  On the line up for key events such as Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound, you can also find him at prestigious venues like Club JJs (Grand Hyatt).

Dan’s musical versatility allows him to cater to clients who require any of the following genres of music:

Rare Disco  80’s Soul  Rare Groove
Northern Soul  Lounge  60’s Soul
Funk   Hip Hop  Jazz/Jazz Funk

DJ Tynee
Music style: House (Deep, Tech)

Real name Elaine Shin, TYNEE ( “Tiny”)  grew up in New York.  After returning to Hong Kong to work in Asia, Tynee immersed herself in the more Progressive sounds of the U.K. At the time, the rave scene just commenced there.  Since the beginning of her clubbing days, Tynee was very particular about knowing a track’s name, label, mix, and related details. Perhaps that was a sign of things to come. But she was still searching for her true calling. A trip to India spurred a few years of dabbling with fashion design.  By the spring of 2004,Tynee gradually dropped everything and went into DJing full-on.

The sounds of Sasha, Dave Seaman and Slacker inspired the direction of music Tynee secured for her own personal listening pleasure around the late 1990s. By 1998, breakbeat started becoming a major sound where Tynee was. The vibe was so astounding at the time. It was around then that she hammered to hear tunes from Meat Katie, Adam Freeland and Rennie Pilgrem. It was a most awesome experience when she got to play Adam Freeland and Meat Katie in Hong Kong! To this day, artists like Momu and Habersham still make her have goose bumps!  Off the breakbeat front, DJs and producers such as Booka Shade, M.A.N.D.Y. and Trentemoller are major influences on her sound behind the DJ booth.

Today, Tynee has emerged as one of the toughest and sexiest DJs in Hong Kong. She is one of the resident DJs at Volar, one of Hong Kong’s hottest clubs. It is at Volar that she had many opportunities to play alongside some of the world’s top DJs, who come to play at Volar regularly.  Concurrently, she is also a resident DJ of ZUMA from London, and Volar’s other very exclusive club Halo. On top of DJing there, she hosts a club night called AUDIO VIXEN, offering the finest unusual arrangement of audio and visual pleasure. Audio Vixen strives to showcase female DJ talent.

Cities that Tynee toured in:
Barcelona ( Spain), Sevilla ( Spain), Valencia ( Spain), Moscow Russia, Bangkok Thailand, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Guilin, Hainan Island, Huangzhou, Nanning, Shanghai, Shenyang, Shenzhen, Xiamen

Tynee has shared the stage with:
Adam Freeland, Derrick May, Nick Warren, Paolo Mojo, Guy Gerber, Hernan Cattaneo, Meat Katie, Mike Monday, John ’00 Fleming, Miss Kittin, Lisa Loud, Ricky Stone, Tommie Sunshine, Dollz@Play, Greenskeepers, DJ Igor, Lee Cabrera, Slok

May Acuna
Music Style: House (House, Uplifting/Electro)

May arrived in Hong Kong back in 1998 to work as resident DJ of Dusk Till Dawn bar and also played at Insomnia. After deciding to take another step forward, she jumped ship and became Entertainment Manager and resident DJ at Edge, the biggest live music venue in Central, in 2002.

May has to be one HK’s most unique female talents.  With a passion for house music, she has destroyed dancefloors throughout Hong Kong and China with her funky and progressive sound.  With years of experience and memorable sets at events like Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound, May brings nothing but ‘Mayhem’ to any dancefloor.

May’s style is defined by two influences: her DJ heroes and her personality.  With influences like Miguel Migs, David Morales, Raul Rincon, Mark Knight and Danny Tenaglia, expect to hear uplifting, wild, deep and funky house.

She has played at Chapter Three, Club 97 for their Diva Nights, Glide & Swerve’s Denim Party in 2002 and House of Sirens Aids Concern/Viva Glam Party in 2003, the Celine Dion Concert After-party, and has played at different venues such as Red, Lost, Soda, and MO Bar at Mandarin Oriental Landmark, as well as various clubs all over China.

DJ May plays electro, funky and percussive house. Her DJ heroes are David Morales, Miguel Migs, Raul Rincon, Mark Knight, and Danny Tenaglia.

Current Residencies include FINDS, Beijing Club, Volume, and Zinc.
