Heineken Green Room with Tortured Soul (Live) and legendary Patrick Forge (DJ set) Thursday 15 Sept 2005 at Zouk, by invitation only
Tortured Soul filters club sounds like afro beat and samba through a lens of jazzy house, funk and American soul to reflect intense grooves evocative of Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, Prince and Fela Kuti. Conceived in May 2001 by drummer, singer, and songwriter Christian Urich, he is joined by keyboardist Ethan White’s rhythmic and soulful blend of jazz, Brazilian pop, African rhythms, and 70's R&B; and Conservatory-trained bassist Jason Kriveloff’s tight and jazzy bottom end. The trio powerfully blends soul, live electronica and deep house, transcending anything previously witnessed. The sound is infectious. The music moves.
Joining the band is the legendary Patrick Forge, one who has 2 decades of experience behind him. From his early years as the original member of Kiss FM - London’s then pirate radio station; and rocking the Talkin Loud parties with Gilles Peterson, Patrick went on to play in a 7-piece band “Batu” at Glastonbury and The Jazz café; and recorded music as “Da Lata” which saw massive support from the likes of Francios K, Joe Claussell and Phil Asher. To date, he’s recorded more than a dozen compilations, and he still keeps busy with his radio show on Kiss FM, plus various weekly and monthly residencies around London, playing everything from down tempo, jazz, deep house, drum & bass and Brazilian and more!
