Luke Fair - Balance
Label: EQ

From the forefront of Canada's budding dance scene is Luke Fair. Now having performed at some of the most prestigious venues and events in the world, i t's unsurprising that Luke continues EQ recordings tradition of top quality Electronic music on the Balance series.

He predicts that "The mood of this mix will capture the sound of an entire night at a club, a full set from open to close". Quite interesting then that the first track feels like an atmospheric downer at the end of a night… just an observation. The track in itself is great and an awesome opener. I do see what mood he's trying to exude from this mix though, it does build a vivid montage of a classic club night.

The more dub influenced tracks (that I will admit are more to my taste) shine on this album and set a tone for an enjoyably mellow set, but the 2 CD's are mostly made up of progressive house that runs solidly throughout.

For me the stand out track on this album has to be Burnin'  by Kinka (CD.1 Track.11 ), it has this cool Shuggie Otis sounding blues rock guitar waning through the thumpy boom bap of the beat.

This is without doubt one of the best dance mixes of the year. If you're a fan of progressive house and want to hear it expertly mixed with an electro and dub edge to it, you won't be disappointed.
