After working in the Entertainment and Hospitality industry for the last 12 years in the UK and Hong Kong from all sides I have picked up plenty of experience on how to promote events that work. Being press, promoter and a member of the general public you get to see all angles of organising an event that most promoters themselves donât get to see.
At the risk of sounding a bit tecky this month Iâve just gotta shout about the new thing going on the world of Djing. Its the introduction of software mixing. If youâve recently been to see Djâs like Sasha, Gabriel & Dresden and Jon 00 Flemming you might have wandered where all the vinyl went and why there not even playing CDâs anymore. The answer is mixing just went virtual and now it can all be done on your lap top.
Vercetti â Control (Orig) Lange
Lange has made a definite resurgence in my sets with his recent remixes of Thrillseekers "Nu Life" and his own track of the summer "Sincere". Now he returns under yet another guise bringing us his latest hybrid of trance. Crisp beats a bit of percussion and a fat techno b-line really drive things along to a great start before the synths start to filter gradually into the mix. The track progresses into the basic melody and opens up into the inevitable synth-onic breakdown for a bit of the old hands in the air before kicking in once more like a mule on speed. The bass saves the day and seems to do the business in my sets but not one for the crowd who get bored easily without some hook to latch on to. 4/5

Sandler âTheme Song (Orig) Spinnin
Sandler aka Sam Sharp has delivered countless monsters this last year with Ecraigâs â "Beat Goes On", his own track "Deep" and his remix of my own "Nocturnal Delight". It looks like his still on the up & up with this classic soul stirring piece that sounds like a theme from a movie like Blade
runner. In his usual dark euphoric style the track cruises along with
hypnotic beats and a haunting production into the most monumental and longest breakdown Iâve heard for a while. The suspense and atmosphere really holds you as it builds up with squelching synths and huge synth pads and then kicks in with a fat beat and b-line. Gets them rockin every time teasing the crowd for just about as long as you can before repeating the whole routine again. 5/5

Hiratz â Venice Dawn (Orig) SR2
Its got not a lot to do with trance cause its more like the sound of progressive fused with a real live guitars. Iâve had the opportunity to drop this when in the US at the beginning of a more proggy set and its beautifully synthetic live sound really works in the right setting. Still they do love there rock in the states so I reckon it was more at home over there than in the UK. For those who loved groups like Garbage and Sneaker pimps you should give it a listen. A lush female vocal drifts over real bass guitar and proggy beats with a distinctively indie rock feel. I really see this a part of a fresh new offshoot of dance music along with songs like Silencerâs "Drown Me" 4/5
