The Flaming Lips Live In Hong Kong
The Flaming Lips, live in Singapore & Hong Kong November 2010
Untitled Entertainment and proud to announce that the Flaming Lips will be performing with us in: Singapore at Marina Bay Sands on the 11th and Hong Kong at the Asia World Expo on November 13th.
If there is one band that personifies just how mind-blowingly awesome a live show can be at its most wondrous, the Flaming Lips would be that band. Even within the eclectic world of alternative rock, few bands were so brave, so frequently brilliant, and so deliciously weird as the Flaming Lips. From their beginnings as Oklahoma weirdos to their mid-'90s pop culture breakthrough to their status as one of the most respected groups of their generation, Untitled Entertainment simply had to bring the band that Q Magazine hailed as “One of the 50 Bands to See Before You Die” to Asia.
Champions of the Psychedelic Alt-Rock scene (with such cult hits as “She Don’t use Jelly”), they first came to major worldwide prominence in 1999 with the stunning album "The Soft Bulletin", a collection of melodically catchy, lyrically quirky and beautifully orchestrated tracks that caught the imagination of the music-loving world.
Follow up "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" continued the band’s ascendance, garnering huge critical acclaim and an ever growing fan base, culminating in 2002 with a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, before 2006’s "At War With Mystics" (actually their 11th album) became their most successful release thus far. By 2007, they had garnered two more Grammys.
October 2009 saw the release of their mammoth 18 track new album, “Embryonic”, their most challenging work to date, it’s a dizzyingly ambitious record filled with epic freeform jams that have been compared to the sound of early 70s Miles Davis playing the work of Yes, which might be a little disconcerting in any other band’s hands but is no less than we would expect from a group that have never played by the rules and always pushed their sound forward.
For all their recorded wonderment though, it’s as a live act that the Flaming Lips really come into their own, producing a legendary live show involving UFO’s, Giant Hands, a stage full of animal suited lunacy and in Wayne Coyne one of the most enigmatic front men around today.
It’s no surprise then that the Flaming Lips were at the very top of the list of bands that Untitled Entertainment wanted to bring to Asia. Promoting past shows including the Kings of Convenience, Two Door Cinema Club & Delphic, the Flaming Lips will be an audio-visual spectacular the likes that we’ve not yet seen in Hong Kong or Singapore.
