Ardbeg – The Ultimate Valentine's Gift for Rebels
The “World Whisky of the Year” Ardbeg is being regarded as the “ultimate Valentine’s gift for rebels”.
The celebrated Islay malt is billed as “L'Enfant Terrible of Whisky” – ideal for individuals who are “young, successful, strikingly unorthodox, innovative or avant garde”.
Ardbeg is acclaimed for its sophisticated, complex aroma, stunningly clean flavour and perfect balance.
Ardbeg prides itself on being the “Ultimate Islay Malt Whisky”. Established in 1815, it is revered by connoisseurs as the peatiest, smokiest and most complex of all Islay malts.
Despite its smokiness, Ardbeg is also renowned for its devilishly delicious sweetness and quirky aromas, light heartedly compared to soap, leather saddles and salted herrings.
The dram has an equally quirky history, in keeping with its “L’Enfant Terrible” image. During the 1980s and 1990s, the distillery faced an uncertain future -- until it was saved from extinction in 1997 when Ardbeg was purchased by the Glenmorangie Company.
Since then, the brand has risen like a phoenix to become established as a niche, cult malt, with a passionate following amongst whisky aficionados around the world.
By joining The Ardbeg Committee at www.ardbeg.com, “L’Enfant Terrible” around the glode ensure the doors of Ardbeg will never close again.
No matter how near or far, the members share a common purpose : to celebrate the re-awakening of Ardbeg and dispense drams to those deprived of knowledge about the Ultimate Islay Malt Whisky.
In his 2008 Whisky Bible, Jim Murray said: “To me Ardbeg is, and always has been, the most complex malt on earth”.
Ardbeg is available in selected retail shops including City Super, Oliver's The Delicatessen, Sogo, Jusco and Rare & Fine Wines. The suggested retail price of a 70cl bottle of Ardbeg is HK$580.
