Desserts and cocktails may not be a usual pairing, but it's actually a match made in heaven. Forget the classy hotel afternoon tea sets and satisfy your sweet tooth and your alcohol cravings all at once! Read on and see how we felt about Brick Lane’s Dessert x Cocktail pairing menu.
With a spacious and beautifully decorated interior and an alfresco area (with tables outside) – we'd have to say it is by far our most favourite store of Brick Lane. Honestly it's a little bit of a walk from the MTR station, but totally worth it. If you're allergic to heat though, choose to sit indoors with tons of natural light instead!
Red Velvet & Red Margarita $88HKD
We are recommended to take a sip of the Margarita before digging into the cake. However, we could not wait but to dig in! Blood-red and layered with traditional cream cheese frosting, it's the perfect red velvet doubled. The refreshing and slightly citrus grapefruit taste of the Margarita balanced off the creaminess of the cake, making them a perfect pair.
Lemon Tart & Espresso Martini $85HKD
First off, just FYI, we ordered a second glass of this Espresso Martini after the tasting. Inspired by the Hong Kong drink “Lemon coffee”, this pairing challenges 4 out of 5 of your key flavours: sweet, sour, bitter, and saltiness. In order to balance off the flavour of the sour and slightly bitter martini, the lemon tart is slightly sweeter with a whole lot of cream... But who cares – the two of them turns out to be the best together!
Apple Crumble & Passion Negroni $112HKD
Who says apple crumble is only for after tea? This classic dessert turns out to be even better with the slight bitterness brought by the vermouth in the drink. If it's not sinful enough for you, don't forget the a la mode on the side with extra digestive bits to put the extra punch in your bite.
Victoria in a Jar & French 75 $85HKD
The story behind this pair is quite interesting – they wanted to pair off the queen with a king and that's how this was born. The balance between the freshness of the French 75 and the sweetness of the strawberries used in their version of Victoria Sponge Sandwich is just about right (even though we almost lost the sponge cake in the cream). The king does make this traditional dessert better – 2 is always better than 1!
Sizzling S’mores & Honey Suckle $168HKD
We saved the best for last – this sinful and evil pair would be your choice if you are ready to spend some calorie quotas here… It is all about gooey chocolate and marshmallow with a sip of Honey Suckle when it gets too sticky. There's no need for fire when you can just have it in a pan served right to your table, the only thing you're missing out will be the mosquitoes in the wild!
The pairing menu is available every day, including weekends, from 3pm at BRICK LANE Admiralty and BRICK LANE Gallery over at TST, so round up your friends for a new kind of happy hour! (P.S. we recommend ordering a side of truffle fries too... just to balance out the sweetness or dip in the ice cream!)
