Articles - Food and Drink

Whyte & Mackay 40 years old has scooped the title of ‘best 2010 blended scotch whisky’ by top whisky publication, Whisky Magazine, at their annual Whiskies of the World Awards held earlier this month in London.

The awards celebrating the very best whiskies in the world, is chaired by Dave Broom, international whisky expert. Winners progressed through three rounds of blind tastings to emerge as the victors in their categories, with the World’s Best New Release being chosen from the magazine’s tastings section and tasted during the final round.

Whyte & Mackay Master Blender Richard Paterson commented; ‘Whisky Magazine is an extremely important magazine for the industry and whisky fans all over the globe.  Being awarded ‘best blended scotch whisky in the world’ title is a great achievement for us and it’s a great way to start 2010 – lets hope this is the first of many medals for us this year!’

Whyte & Mackay blended portfolio won a total of 13 medals in 2009 with every bottle in the portfolio (Special, 13, 19, 22, 30 and 40 years old) picking up a Silver medal or above.  Master Blender Richard Paterson proved instrumental in this success, with the company also picking up the ‘Global Distiller of the Year’ title from the International Wines and Spirits Competition.
