The drum and bass legend was released after serving ten months in a number of Dubai jails and speaking after his release described ‘appalling’ conditions.
"They don't have toilets, they have holes in the ground. There's eight people to a cell and they do treat you alright don't get me wrong but it's just horrible seeing so many people come in for nothing," he told Radio 1’s news show Newsbeat.
"The despair and the unhappiness. That's more battering than anything else,” he added.
DJ AM/AY was jailed in the same week that press reports appeared of a 16 year old Emirates boy who died after allegedly sniffing butane gas from an aerosol can, a death US newspaper Alburquerque News directly attributed UAE’s zero tolerance drugs policy/
“The inhalation of deodorant is not uncommon in the oil-rich emirate,” the newspaper noted, “Dubai has a stringent no drugs policy and teenagers find unusual and often dangerous ways of ‘getting high’ without realising the extreme risk associated with it.”
