Calibre Interview
1) How do you feel playing in Hong Kong? What can we expect from your set in Hong Kong?
a. it will be nice to visit hong kong as its my first time, i still find it amazing that i find myself in these strange new places after 10 years of travelling, and of course this will add to the vibe on the night, im hoping to play alot of deep music, i dont go to dj to get a typical dnb reaction, so that gives me a chance to play deeper sets.
2) How did you progress into the Drum and Bass scene?
a. i was signed by a label in dublin called quadraphonic, which was owned by U2 i believe, and from there i signed to creative source, which is owned by fabio, i finished my first album in 2000, called musique concrete and from there its been a very interesting journey.
3) Tell us a little bit about your feelings on the future of drum and bass.
a. well for me the future in music partially relies on the past, to a variable extent, so im always looking back to see what i want to do next, and the music as it cycles through generations will do the same, it will go forward then take a side step for a while, into whatever major influence that is im not so sure.
4) Who are your top 3 favourite DJs?
a. mmmm, im a great fan of doc scott, i really like jazzy jeff, and for house music i like sneak.
5) Can you tell us the best set you’ve ever mixed and why?
a. phew im not sure, i played a couple of sets in cologne in germany in different clubs that have been for me really special, and reason for this is because i feel that im in a privileged position, i think they like my music.
6) What are you busy with at the moment?
a. im currently writing an album thats not dnb, its more singer songwriter based, and it includes me singing drumming and producing, plus ive got shelflife2 album about to drop, and im working on a possible new dnb album, plus i got my dubstep stuff that i do......
7) What would you be doing if you where not a DJ?
a. i make music first no matter what so id hope id still be doing that, if not maybe id be doing something creative what that would be i dont know, maybe the visual arts.
8) What are your future plans, any new remixes or productions? Any new albums or tour plans?
a. ive shelflife 2 which is the follow up to my first compilation of unreleased material, the tunes that i never put out that still hold something for me, plus ive got a dubstep single on deep medi muzik, plus my non dnb album to go, so alot there, im heading to new zealand after hong kong to do a short tour out there, then im playing around europe and the uk after this, its going to be busy, stressful, and hopefully very fulfilling.
Calibre will be performing at Sugar on the 14th March.
