Dirk Sid Eno: Come & Hear Me DJing There Next Year!
“Quickly we got used to the weather changes and somehow started accepted them as a part of that weekend. I really don’t know why and how to explain it to people who haven’t been there, but when the weather was bad it really didn’t matter after a while, maybe because everybody was happy and smiling however it was.”
Cologne based promoter/ DJ Dirk Sid Eno made his debut on the island this year
Jonty Skrufff: What did you think of this year's event? (compared to previous years: what stood out?) (was this your first time?)
Dirk Sid Eno: “Before the festival I’d heard nothing but fantastic feedback about SIN but when I arrived to even my own surprise my already high expectations meant nothing; because it was even better. Words really can’t express what it feels like to be a part of it, you simply need to be on the island to experience it yourself.”
Skrufff: All the DJ always play for free: what is it about SIN that made you want to be involved?
Dirk Sid Eno: “I really loved the idea behind the festival of everybody being equal and no DJ being paid a fee, without exception. There are so many possibilities as a DJ to play and be paid well but this event is all about the experience and the opportunity it provides to explore yourself. It’s also a great chance to really get to know many other DJ and not just doing the usual backstage small talk.”
Skrufff: What makes sin different from other festivals?
Dirk Sid Eno: “I think nearly everything. The only thing comparable to other festivals is the fact that the visitors are living in a tent. That’s all.”
Skrufff: How much of a problem is the weather; how do you handle storms and being soaked (without getting fed up?)
Dirk Sid Eno: On the first night we arrived during the biggest and rainiest storm of the whole weekend so everything was completely wet and soaked before we’d even managed to put up our tent. But men have survived worse situations. So we put our wet sleeping bags aside and warmed each other inside the tent. The next day, when the sun came out we put our sleeping bags on the rocks and they dried like that, really quickly because the sun got hot. Quickly we got used to the weather changes and somehow started accepted them as a part of that weekend. I really don’t know why and how to explain it to people who haven’t been there, but when the weather was bad it really didn’t matter after a while, maybe because everybody was happy and smiling however it was.”
Skrufff: What would you change about SIN?
Dirk Sid Eno: “Puh, that’s a hard question. I don't know. You’d better let others who’ve been to a few of them to comment because right now I really have no complaints at all.”
Skrufff: What advice would you offer someone who's never been before?
Dirk Sid Eno: “Let yourself go. Enjoy every minute. Respect nature and other people. Get in touch with anybody on the island. And book your ticket for the next year in time. Oh, and come and listen to me playing there next year!”
