Peyton Interview

Articles - Interviews

ImageIs this your first time performing in Hong Kong and what are you expecting from it?

I performed in Hong Kong only once before, at a club called Drop.  It was an amazing gig, and I totally fell in love with the city.  I'm expecting to fall in love all over again!

You have lived in a few places like NYC and South America, why did you choose to settle down in London?

Well, London sort of chose me.  I came to London for love because I was in a relationship with a Brit, but in the end that love affair didn't last, although my love affair with London carries on.

You were also a presenter, a host of a Radio show and a Food and Drink adviser for all 20 episodes of a reality TV show.  What job do you like the most?

I am definitely happiest when I'm singing and writing.    I have explored a lot of different creative avenues over the years, as every artist should, and I've enjoyed them all.  But my passion is music.

Tell me more about your experience travelling around the world in 2004/5.

Actually, all I seem to do is travel around the world.  It all started to really kick off in 2004, but since then I feel like I've just been on one very long plane ride.  It has been an incredible experience, meeting so many beautiful people in countries all over the globe that I never dreamed I'd have the chance to visit.  But it's not always as glamorous as it appears.  Travelling is exhausting, and artists and DJ's spend a lot of time alone in airports and hotels, wishing they could just crawl into their own bed at home and sleep for a week.  But it's a blessed life, and I'm exceedingly grateful to be living it.

Among all your tracks, which one is your favourite?

My personal favourite is a track I wrote called Here I Am, which was recently released on this summer's Fierce Angels Beach Angel compilation.  You can also hear it on www.myspace.com/theofficialpeytonmusic

That track has a lot of personal meaning for me.  But of course the track that kicked everything off for me was A Higher Place, and so I have a lot of love and respect for it.

Can you tell us the best performance you’ve ever had and why?

Every now and then you have a gig which really stands out from all the others, and reminds you why you're doing what you do.  Last year that gig for me was when I performed at the Sol y Luna Harbour Party, in Sydney, for Mardi Gras.  It was pure magic.  The sun going down behind the iconic setting of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, while thousands of people danced like maniacs along the water's edge.  It doesn't get any better.

Who is your favourite singer?

It's hard to say just one, but I'm a big fan of Ella Fitzgerald.  She has a tone in her voice that makes me want to drink martinis forever.

What are you busy doing at the moment?

At the end of the year I'm heading back to Australia for a two month tour down under!  Also, I'm currently putting together a new release, which will be a 3-CD anthology of my music called Peyton: The Collection.  At present it's a little difficult to find a lot of my music together, because it's spread out on so many compilations, vinyl, etc.  The Collection will make it a lot easier to find all the Peyton you could ever want!

Peyton will be performing live at Hed Kandi World Series Tour at Club JJs on the 22nd November 2008. For more information visit www.hedkandi.com.hk
