Richard Murray Interview
Welcome back Richard. This is your second time in playing in Hong Kong for Ministry of Sound – What were you thoughts about last your last trip, and are you excited about coming back?
Yes I had such a great time last time, the club was fantastic, great people an a real riot of a night, so I’m really looking forward to returning and doing it all again and seeing the guys and girls again.
You are well known as a Ministry Of Sound & housexy resident DJ, and CD compilation artist. What do you look for in a track when selecting those to go on the CD?
I don’t know really, It’s hard to describe, I guess as there are so many CD’s on the market there is a certain commercial angle needed with some tracks, ie the CD should have a decent proportion of big current tunes that the people will recognise / like, then maybe I try to introduce some new records that should appeal, but then obv the running order needs to considered so I then need to make sure the tops and tails of tracks can match together without clashing, so this can sometimes make or break if a track makes the final cut
Your most recent compilation, MOS Underground 2010, has just been released; for you, what are the highlights off the new album?
I must admit cd3 is my favourite, I like them all but CD1 is more disco and funk fuelled which is cool, CD2 is more trance edged and again I like it, but CD3 is more full on bangers which I tend to play out more often, highlights for me being David Guetta - GRRRRR, Timo Maas - Jetstream, Cirez D - On Off….
2009 is almost over, what have you been up to this year? What is your highlight of the year so far?
This year has seen me play all over from Japan to Colombia, Ibiza to Chile, Bahrain to Brazil but I think the highlight of the year was headlining Pacha Buenos Aires, I played the Main room, main set, 3.30 – 6am with 3500+ in the building and it was proper crazy… It took one hour to walk 50 meters from the venue door to the gate[ upon leaving around 9am], due to the clubbers coming to chat / take photos – real crazy stuff after an electric night

Ministry of Sound and housexy send you all over the world to DJ, but what club and which country do you look forward to visiting the most?
To be honest, it’s always great to return somewhere I’ve already played as I’ve had a taster of the club and the people which makes it more personal so I’m really looking forward to my second Hong Kong visit
There have been many great releases so far this year, what track is your favourite?
Yes the year has had so many great releases but the best of me has to be Cirez D – On Off… amazing amazing record with such drive and energy – love it
What are your plans for 2010? Is there anyone in particular that you want to work with or catch live?
I’ve just signed with a new Agent [Sedition Dj’s] so I’m looking forward to a new start and hopefully things stepping up, I have a number of releases ready to go, and some more in progress and I’m just looking forward to watching the year unfold and what it will bring. January sees a return to Brazil, and I have a couple of gigs in the Alps [Feb / April] so time to dust down the snowboarding skills [or lack of] I have a couple of things lined up with some wicked vocalists, and a couple of potential collabs also so all very exciting really ;) I’m also looking forward to catching some of the big guys in the game at various points across the year, [toolroom camp / cr2 camp / Swedish house mafia etc etc] and see what’s going down in their world.
