Can you believe that it’s been five years since drop opened its doors in 2000? drop, the first club in Asia to be recognised globally, continues as a legend in its own right.

Colette Koo, owner of drop, said - “When we opened 5 years ago, everyone thought that the club scene was dying. No one believed that our small club in a basement, located at the dark end of an alley would ever last. But we’ve proved our critics wrong! We’ve had 5 fabulous years and with the fantastic support from our members and guests we’re still going on as strong as ever”.

Without a doubt, one of the reasons for drop’s success is due to co-owner Joel Lai, internationally recognised as Asia’s best DJ having played alongside some of the biggest names in the industry and who spins regularly at drop. The club was the first to establish a more cosmopolitan feel achieving the status and recognition for drop’s great music without the hype, decadently fresh fruit martinis and the regular cool & friendly crowd. This recognition extends around the globe. Whatever the reason, people can’t seem to get enough of the bar or its music and continue to queue outside the exclusive venue for more and more.

Colette went on to say - “We have a reputation of hosting unforgettable parties and, as we’re never going to be big enough to accommodate everyone at drop, we decided to have One Party in Two Locations for our 5th Anniversary; at FINDS and at drop. We want people to feel very welcome. For those people that may be scarce on the party scene these days, we hope they’ll drop by and see us. I look forward to seeing a reunion of old and new friends on the night”.

The ‘Drop Dead Fabulous Party’ will take place on Thursday, 15 December, starting at FINDS, from 10 pm to 12 midnight, and then followed by an exclusive members ‘After Party’ at drop from midnight onwards.

To celebrate the five years of drop and as a follow-up to the very chart topping ‘Drop In’ CD released three years ago, a second dance CD called ‘Drop Dead Fabulous’ will be launched that night. The CD is produced with the support of Moet who has been a partner of drop since its opening.

Again, at the helm of the CD project is co-owner and resident DJ Joel Lai. Joel started DJ-ing in 1985 and in 1987 was a DJ at Club97 in Lan Kwai Fong. “Working there”, he later said, “changed my life”. Renowned for his cutting edge and up front dance music, DJ Joel Lai has spun with almost all the top names in the business such as Sasha, Digweed, Boy George, Paul Oakenfold, Louie Vega. All tracks on the CD have been personally selected and mixed by Joel to create an accurate drop “flava”. “I’m very happy to be releasing a second drop dance CD; expect to hear sexy, funky and full of soul dance music”, Joel said.
