Pot smoking travelers transiting through Singapore Airport who’ve smoked a joint within the last month risk being jailed immediately, according to a report on the country’s infamously strict anti-drug strategies, published in the Independent this week.

Singaporean dugs councilor Tony Tan said first time offenders face one year mandatory jail terms if identified as consumers and warned ‘consumption just means that your urine has tested positive’.

“There are CNB (Central Narcotics Bureau) officers at Singapore customs and they are trained to look at signs of drug use, they look for signs like bloodshot eyes and people walking unstably,” he added.

“In Singapore, if you are taking drugs overseas once you cross the border into Singapore and test positive you will still be charged even though you didn’t consume the drugs in Singapore,” he said.

Meanwhile in Bali, Australian Ricky Shane Rawson, 45, was detained in the island’s infamous Denpasar prison after being busted with two ecstasy pills and a tiny amount of speed. Press reports said Mr Rawson was picked up after a tip-off and now faces up to 12 years in jail.
