Description

A fruiti night for Hong Kong

Following a fantastical and fabulous debut on the Hong Kong nightlife scene, indie gay-straight & in-between club Fruit-i-licious will return to Rockshool in Wan Chai on 18 Feb. Over 200 people joined the fruiti festivities at the launch night on January 14th, enjoying performances from drag king Frankie, resident burlesque troupe The Vixens and drag royalty Coco Pop. A unique fruiti blend of indie, rock and pop kept the dancefloor jumping till well after midnight, while over HK$10,000 was raised for charity project WISE Asia.

Confirming the line-up for the second Fruit-i-licious, which will run monthly, co-organiser Danielle Spencer said “So many people came and enjoyed the fruiti festivities in January that we felt we had to have another. Joining The Vixens will be La Chiquitta, the drag diva extraordinaire who’s original track “Tranny in the House” is lighting up dancefloors in Hong Kong and abroad. A special vignette from the cast of Vday will be followed by an on-stage orgasm contest.

Most importantly, the same mix of gay and gay-friendly partygoers will gather to celebrate life, the universe and partying on a school night.

What:    An all inclusive straight-friendly club night featuring live acts, accessible pop, rock and indie music and an irreverently fruity atmosphere. This month’s acts are resident Burlesque act The Vixens, the divalicious La Chiquitta, Hong Kong’s only drag queen recording artists, a special V-day vignette and on-stage orgasm contest more.

When:    18th February 2010, 8pm to late – (next one March XX)

Where:     Wan Chai live venue ROCKSCHOOL, 93 Jaffe Road

Why:    Because everybody loved the first night and demanded more.

How much:    Entry just HK$50, including one free drink. All entry fees will go to charity.

Showing that frivolity and fun can also have a serious impact, Fruit-i-licious will be donating the entire proceeds from the HK$50 cover charge to the charitable project WISE. WISE is a women’s empowerment project, which will work to empower women in different regions across Asia who are suffering from poverty related issues – such as trafficking, prostitution and substance abuse. Danielle, who is also Project Coordinator for WISE, says: “I feel it is very appropriate for a night like this in to sponsor WISE, particularly as it will be held in Wan Chai. WISE aims to go to the source of prostitution and trafficking issues in Asia and empower women, so that they can tell their stories.  It is very fitting that funds should be donated from a notorious area of Hong Kong, where many of these women end up. It’s also appropriate that Fruit-i-licious is an inclusive night and is sponsoring a women’s charity – we all have mothers.”
