A mysterious masked man arrived on the European underground clubbing circuit in 2006 with a series of releases that sounded like classic Detroit techno beamed back from the near-future.
This was the first taste the world had of Redshape, and there was no indication about who he was or where he had come from. By using the anonymity of the expressionless red mask, Redshape was attempting to focus attention on his music alone, but the speculation over his identity only increased with each subsequent release.
The tracks that followed on labels such as Music Man, R&S, Delsin and Present radically expanded his fan base, but Redshape at the same time became equally famous for his amazing live show. Standing coolly in control of an army of blinking machines, Redshape has won widespread acclaim for these improvised analog performances – and no two shows can ever be the same.
The red mask not only protects Redshape’s identity, it also highlights the “Mensch Und Maschine” approach of his music – as well as adding a spectral aspect to his awesome live show, which will be coming to Volar on February 21.
