Description

USA Post Rockers The Album Leaf - live in Hong Kong, April 7th!

Over a decade has passed since Jimmy LaValle formed The Album Leaf in San Diego, California.  Ten years plus, creating the most sublime and subtle post rock becoming in the process, one of the genres key focal figures.  On the eve of their latest album release, we thought it high time we brought the sleek crafted orchestration of The Album Leaf to local audiences here in Hong Kong.

Since forming The Album Leaf (TAL) in 1998, LaValle has gone from initial lo-fi, improvised home recordings to now five complete studio albums, from opening slots to leading an incredible world-touring band to the stage at Red Rocks, headlining the Metamorphose festival in Japan and performing at the Hollywood Bowl in front of 20,000. LaValle’s well-earned reputation as a crafter of impeccable sonic imagery even led to a critically-acclaimed show at the Seattle International Film Festival where TAL performed a live score for the 1927 silent film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans.  The hit teen drama The O.C has featured no less than six TAL tracks through their seasons, and TAL’s music has also appeared on numerous CSI episodes, adverts and PSAs by the Obama administration.

Signed to celebrated Seattle label Sub Pop (Nirvana, Sonic Youth, CSS) TAL’s album discography of An Orchestrated Rise To Fall (1999), One Day I’ll be On Time (2001), In A Safe Place (2004), and Into The Blue Again (2006) is completed by Feb 2010’s release A Chorus Of Storytellers (LaValle took a break in between LPs to get married as well as record/tour with indie rock supergroup Magnetic Morning - which includes Sam Fogarino from Interpol and Swervedriver's Adam Franklin.)

TAL have written songs with Bright Eyes and Black Heart Procession, though it is their mutual appreciation society with kindred musical spirits Sigur Rós that is most often documented.  The artists have toured, written and recorded extensively together, and on the latest album Sigur Rós’s Birgir Birgisson was on mixing duties.

Musically, TAL blend live instrumentation with electronics to create an ethereal dream-like sound that lies somewhere between Mogwai, Thom Yorke’s solo work and Boards of Canada.  Live, their full band set up crafts a multi-layered sonic soundscape capable of transporting the listener to another realm.

The Peoples’ Party invites you to join us in said realm for TAL’s one-night-only show in Hong Kong at Grappas Cellar on the 7th April 2010.
