Hi everyone - in June, PUSH are bringing in a DJ/producer who got his start in HK before becoming a very influential figure in electronic dance music throughout the world.
Technasia will be available for interviews - please let me know if I can help hook this up :
Some of you won't know this, but one of the most important and influential acts in the world of techno during the past 20 years was created in our home city of Hong Kong.
Technasia came together in Hong Kong in 1996 with the goal of putting Southeast Asia firmly on the world map of electronic dance music. After being founded by Frenchman Charles Siegling and the Hong Kong-born Amil Khan, Technasia created a unique east/west fusion that moved seamlessly from the Paris club scene to the streets of Hong Kong and onto the most influential techno venues in Europe and the rest of the world.
They chose to base Technasia and their Sino record label in Hong Kong because at the time the city had no techno scene, no record shops, no underground, no infrastructure. Initially it was a battle for survival, but the location became vital to the Technasia ethos of using music as form of communication.
And it was a form of communication that proved a great success: over the following decade, the duo released tracks such as Oxide, Evergreen and the classic Technasia track Force, which were championed by early techno luminaries such as Sven Vath (Cocoon) and Adam Beyer (Drumcode), and helped shine a light on the Hong Kong producers. And during the same period, their Sino imprint served as a launching pad for some of the biggest techno artists working today, including Joris Voorn, Renato Cohen, Steve Rachmad and Dosem.
Since Khan left the duo amicably in 2008 to focus on his young family, Siegling has continued Technasia as a solo project. And he has steered the Technasia name to massive success, continually cracking the Beatport Top 10 with his intelligent, stripped-back techno productions and even paying homage to the city that gave birth to the duo with the acclaimed 2010 album Central.
But all along, and regardless of where he is based, Siegling has ultimately chosen to communicate the Technasia ethos through sound. “Electronic music is the greatest language of all. No words, just the vibration, the emotion and the beat.”
And now, after years of headlining some of the biggest clubs and festivals in Japan, Germany, Spain, Brazil, France, The Netherlands and Australia, PUSH are excited to be bringing Technasia back to Hong Kong, the city where the whole story began. At Volar on June 27, Siegling will be supported by PUSH residents Frankie Lam, Lukas and AKW.
