Over the course of a career now spanning more than 20 years, Frankfurt DJ/producer Gregor Tresher has proved to be the rare artist who has achieved huge success without following trends in electronic dance music.
Tresher’s secret has been a relentless focus on melody and timbre, timeless musical elements that other producers often undervalue, and a close listen to his music reveals an organic universe of shifting sound.
Tresher began his career as a DJ in Frankfurt in the early 1990s – but today he can be constantly found at venues around the world, from Berlin to Tokyo, Sydney to Los Angeles.
Following two critically acclaimed albums credited to his Sniper Mode alias, Tresher broke through as a producer under his own name via his 2005 releases Still and Neon, his remix of Sven Väth’s “Komm”, and his contribution to Cocoon’s Compilation F, “Full Range Madness”. His 2008 classic “A Thousand Nights” was the year’s best-selling techno track on Beatport and introduced Tresher to a larger audience.
After releasing music on Ovum, Intacto, and Moon Harbour, Gregor Tresher launched his own eclectic imprint, Break New Soil, in 2009, on which three artist albums were released in the following years. And in the same time frame, Tresher also released tracks on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode Records and Sven Vath’s Cocoon imprint, making this a fertile period for the acclaimed producer.
His most recent album, Nightcolors, embodies the signature Tresher sound – from peak hour, techno-driven dance floor bangers, over darker electronica tracks that mark a connection to his earlier works, to lush and cerebral soundscapes that shape the album into a complete listening experience – and of course there are the signature melodic tracks that have become his trademark.
And now after a particularly busy period that has seen him perform headline slots at clubs such as Berghain (Berlin), Fabric (London), Studio 80 (Amsterdam), Output (New York), Sankeys (Ibiza) and Sound (Los Angeles), Tresher will become the latest techno artist bought by PUSH to Hong Kong, where he will appear at Volar on July 31 alongside PUSH residents Frankielam, AKW and Lukas.
