Description

Look out for the themed tram which will be roving around town for the Happy Valley Racecourse Oktoberfest to be held starting tomorrow night (14 October) at the popular city track.  German Consul General Mr. Frank Burbach will officiate at the festival's opening ceremony.

Following the huge success of last year's pioneering event, Happy Valley Racecourse Oktoberfest is making a fun-filled return.  The Oktoberfest celebration will take place at the Beer Garden during the night race meetings on 14 and 21 October and the day racing on 1 November.  Racegoers can revel in the festivities with authentic German beer and cuisine, as well as traditional games from Munich.

German Consul General officiates at Opening Ceremony

After Race 1 tomorrow, German Consul General Mr. Frank Burbach will tap the first beer for the festival at the Beer Garden to signify the start of the Oktoberfest.

Authentic German Beer and Cuisine

As a special fest, customers will be able to enjoy giant one-metre wide pretzels prepared by our chef, exclusive to Happy Valley Racecourse Oktoberfest.  Throughout Oktoberfest, eight major global beer brands, including two big names in Germany, Löwenbräu and Erdinger, will be available at the Beer Garden.  Meanwhile German chefs will cook up mouthwatering traditional Munich Oktoberfest cuisine at the trackside food stalls.

Beer-themed festivities for racecourse revellers

To add to the festival atmosphere, a number of exciting games with chances to win a   HK$5,000 cash voucher and 100 pints of beer will be on offer.  Thrilling games to keep partygoers on their toes include a classic beer drinking contest, the traditional "Wood Sawing" and "Hold the Beer" contests.

DJs will also be on hand to spin festive party tunes during the race intermissions, while eye-catching racing ambassadors will treat fans to interactive racing games with attractive prizes.

This year, Oktoberfest will see the Beer Garden draped in the white-and-blue chequered colours of Bavaria and bursting with Germanic festive atmosphere.   The world-renowned Oktoberfest is originated from a grand royal horse race held at Bavaria, now Munich, in 1810.  The racecourse hence makes an unrivalled venue for the festive celebration.

For details, please refer to oncourse promotional materials.  Admission to the racecourse will commence at 5:15 pm and the first race will start at 7:15 pm.  Racegoers must be aged 18 or above.  For enquiries, please call HKJC's Customer Hotline 1817 or visit www.hkjc.com.
