When was your first discovery and understanding of House Music?
I really discovered it back in the early 90's - i was into jungle / d&b back then but i was also into a bit of house - they sold it at the record store i used to buy by tunes from... but then really understanding it came from a friend of mine nigel wildman - who i met while working at virgin records - he really introduced me to the different house sounds in the mid 90's.. then around 97 i started to like dnb less and house more and then i got hooked into the house thing and the rest is history..
How do you balance life between the studio, the club and home?
It's tough but i think it's important to know when to switch off when your at home and just chill... i also work 4 days a week in the office doing a&r for defected... so it's a pretty hectic schedule but it works when I balance it right and definately pays off
Where do you see house music in 10 years?
house music seems to be going in cycles.. now the disco and latin influences are back in house.. but with a different twist.. so i think different influences will return to house 10 years from now but with a whole new futuristic edge..
Do you aim to be on the Top 100 DJ Mag List?
i'd be lying if i said it wouldn't be nice to see yourself in there.. but you know what.. that top 100 is more of a trance thing and totally commercial.. and there's some really random names you've never even heard off.. i'd love to see the demographics of who really votes!
Tell us more about your role in the ‘Fanatix’ with Neil Pierce.
we've been working together in the studio for like 5 years now.. doing remixes and productions... we always have fun in the studio.. recently the heal my heart remix on king street was a hot one and we've got more tracks in the pipline!
Do you have a favourite DJ? And is there such a thing as the ‘perfect
DJ’?
louie vega and tony humphries used to be my favourite.. and spen knows how to throw down too... the perfect DJ.. depends on what your looking for really ? i like smooth blending and a seamless set but with lots of different flavours... some people like crazy showmanship and lots of trickery? so.. there is a perfect DJ - but everyones is a different ideology of perfect!
What is your impression of Hong Kong, Asia and the music scene?
hong kong is a cool place... the shopping the food.. and the harbour at night when the lights come on is a pretty amazing view.. i've had a love affair with asia for some years now... i first went to thailand 12 years ago and i've been coming back to asia most years ever since that first trip... the music scene is good.. clubs are cool and the
people are up for a good night out~!
If there is one thing you will expect to see or do in Hong Kong, what is
it?
probably buy some sneakers... i'm looking for a new pair of headphones though - so i might try and grab them... and have some hot and sour soup.!
