Phew. I'm back from the bustling city of Hong Kong. Really loved the shopping and the HK-based brands (such as Esprit, Bossini, Giordano etc) were pretty cheap as compared to Singapore...
Anyway, back to the main topic. I and 7 of my friends decided to pop by at 2 clubs on different nights. Our first venue on Tuesday Night was... VENUE. Heh, I thought it an obvious choice since it was polled as the number one nightclub in HK. We arrived there at around 11pm and stayed on till midnight.
What happened in Venue:
We were checked for our age limit. We were 21 yrs old as of 2005 so we still kinda made it through. There were a grand total of 15 people INCLUDING 8 of us. Dance floor was really miniscule but it didn't really matter anyway since no one was on it. We grabbed a drink each and left an hour later. It wasn't what happened in Venue but it was more like what DIDN'T happen. On the way back to our hotel, I was lambasted by my friends for choosing Venue.
Thursday night, 5 of us decided to pop by at HK's happening Lan Kwai Fong. I decided on C Club cos it seems rather popular here in hkclubbing.com. 1am, we arrived in C Club.
What happened OUTSIDE C Club:
The bouncer told us that business was slow and so THEY WERE CLOSING EARLY. To say that I was shocked was really an understatement. We loitered at the entrance and saw the bouncer turning away more people. I thought, "DAMN IT. Of course business is slow if you have the freaking idea of closing the bloody club at 1am." I was freaking pissed.
Upon recommendation for clubs that close after 1am, the bouncer chose Insomnia. (Side comment: He has never heard of Joint 15) After walking around in LKF, we stumbled upon the seemingly expat-filled Insomnia.
What happened in Insomnia:
As we were entering, the bouncer checked our ID (aka passports). He refused entry on the basis that 3 of us were still 20 and had yet to pass our birthday. F***, I was irked and peeved. :smt013
We loitered at LKF and that was when we noticed a huge majority were all pubs rather than clubs. And where were all the locals?! I have nothing against expats, but it seriously disturbs me that the number of expats simply overwhelmed the number of Asians.
F***. We took a taxi back, visited the nearest 7-Eleven, bought a few bottles of red and white wine.
And drank in our hotel rooms.
That was my experience.
Sorry for being frank.

Wow, it seems you indeed had a great time in HK. :smt003
Do come again... :smt006
Well sweetie.... EXPATS drink....simple as that without expats it would be pointless to serve vast amounts of booze in HK.
What a refined pallet you guys have indeed... :smt003
Isnt that against the rules to take booze into the rooms that was bought out side? :smt018
Again do come back for the HK nightlife experience :smt006
P.S: I would advise you to get a Livejournal...

just to let you know that the HKClubbing.com private party was a networking function from 5pm to 8pm the venue was then returned back to the management at 9pm.
I would recommend before you come to HK check with people in this forum, they are all club regulars and can help you find exactly what you are looking for.
As Joint 15 is more of a chinese club, bouncers in LKF will not know of it.
Hope that you come back and we can point you in the right direction. There is stuff out there just need to dig around and use this site.

Come with a less great expectations and you shall be fine...

That link says China has no limit but I have my doubts...
i dont think it is the case, but I ll check when I go out next with the proper authorities... maybe the bouncers were just being stupid as always...
Specially since I went to a venue, showed my HKID card and he said there is no age here and I replied I cant do anything if that is the legal document provided by your government... he hushed... :smt003

A good nite out is what you make of it! :smt001
Since I moved to Hk, I ll have to disagree with you on that point, before moving, sure of course deffinately.
To be honest I could have a great nite by myself just sitting in a bar.
It is different from the UK, I feel uncomftable drinking alone in HK, even in ex-pat pads... I used to hit pubs back in the UK 7 days a week I so miss real drinkers and real drinking...

OK well even though you've made a grand total of 1 post (as opposed to my astonishing tally) its easy to tell you were only out for a whinge and will never visit these forums again. But anyway you've really annoyed me so here goes...
Yes, being out between 11-12 in HK can be kinda quiet. Mainly because unlike Singapore people here are still working our out enjoying life and don't get to work until much later.
Secondly, not entirely sure what exactly you said about expats (your post was kinda boring and I sort of only read the first sentence). But as an expat myself I get kinda ticked off when tourists rock into town and start slaggins us off because of this or that. HK is a really accepting city and we pride ourselves on talking to anyone - no matter where they come from - and all we ask in return is the same level of respect.
Finally, the party scene in HK may not be as big as other cities in the world but if you're not having a good time I think you've missed the point. Its so easy to talk to people here, and if you'd just take the effort you could have ended up with some really great friendships here instead of critiscising it all from the safety of little 'ol SG.
End rant.
As Apu from the Simpsons would say... thankyou, come again.
