DJ Tynee 4th june
Guest DJ at 1/5 on Saturdays in June
This exciting and talented DJ aka Elaine Shin, grew up in New York and started clubbing when the house music scene there was relatively new and most of today's legendary DJ's were just starting to make a name. Guys like Louie Vega from Masters At Work and radio jock DJ Red Alert gave Tynee her taste of underground club music, and from then on she was hooked. And this passion grew during her university years in Toronto when groups like Depeche Mode and New Order were starting to make electronic music be heard on a much larger scale.
By the time Tynee had returned to Hong Kong in the mid 90's, a small but fledgling group of DJ's and promoters were starting to form HK's first rave parties and dedicated club nights. Through a love of nightlife, clubbing, and music, Tynee found herself attending the events held the defining DJ's of that period, such as Andrew Bull and Joel Lai. As the scene began to explode, led by booming after-parties with DJ Christian at Big Apple as well as Lee Burridge at Neptune's, Tynee's appetite and passion for club music only got more fierce. It wasn't long before she was amassing an enviable collection of vinyl herself, and with turntables at home Tynee was already immersing herself in the intricacies of the art of DJÃng.
The last twelve months has seen Tynee finally emerge as one of the exciting new DJ's in Hong Kong. Having played out at the regular Homebase after-parties, she's also already been invited to headline parties in places as far as Guilin and Dongguan, and even Thailand. Her style of music is as diverse as the history of dance music itself, drawing on her own experience as a clubbing veteran. But her preferred style can be described as a very sexy, funky, and downright dirty set of breakbeats and house music. This could include anything from sultry vocal songs to frantic tribal beats and sounds. Overall, Tynee brings an atmosphere of primal energy and sexual drama to any club she plays for, whether in Hong Kong or abroad.
Currently Tynee is enjoying regular guest spots at 1/5, Homebase and Joint 15 in Hong Kong, and she just finished an extensive China tour early next year. Keep your eye on this slamming new edition to HK's world-renowned club scene, DJ Tynee.
