Not sure whether I've posted in the right forum, but this a repost from the bars/clubs forum.
Anyway, haven't been back to HK in 6-7 years, and previously not of an age where I can get into bars easily, or have anyone of similar age to go with, but thats all going to change when I make my first trip in a long time to HK in a month.
Have heard that going out drinking in HK is not cheap, in fact very VERY dear. However the happy hours are worth checking out. So do any of you know anywhere where its quite reasonable (or CHEAP - I have enough money, but am currently unemployed so if I can save, I will!) to spend the whole night drinking and getting hammered. I'm not too bothered about the music, although dance is a preference (I'm even willing to go to cheesey venues!), and the crowd, well, as long as its mixed (male/female, expats/locals), friendly and up for it. I'm more than willing to chat to strangers too.
Somebody mentioned to me once that theres some places, where you pay a standard entry fee, then its unlimited booze!!! Where are these places??
BTW I'm not a raging alcoholic.
Do the regulars on the board have occasional gatherings/meets? I'm in HK from April 14th to May 3rd, would be good to meet some of you!
Cheers!! :smt003

Thanks for the heads up Nick!!!
OK, anyway, went down to Bonkers yesterday for some of this bottomless booze. Monday to Thursday its $86 (inclusive of tax) for a two hour session. Quite relaxed atmosphere, decor very much like a pub/sports clubhouse in the UK. Carlsberg on draught, and choice of red/white wine, tequila, gin, whiskey, vodka, brandy, Heineken & San Miguel in bottles. Pretty much all you need to get trollied.
Didn't notice anyone doing shots. People playing dice games, but no cards! Boo!!
Anyway, we only stayed an hour, as my partner in crime was worried about getting back to Sheung Shui, but in that time we made back our money in terms of UK drinks prices, and tucked away at least 5-7 drinks each!
Good warm-up venue!

yeah i go there sometimes too. you gotta buy your own cards, and get your drinks poured by the asian bartender as he makes them the strongest. Apparently they will be closed this summer as they are moving upatairs in the hotel

The only bad thing about Bonkers I can say, is that they don't give you fresh glasses. You have to return your original glass to the bar before they give you a new one. And don't any bars in HK serve soft drinks from a tap?? All the * that is issued as a mixer is in bottles.
Anyway, went to Air yesterday. Really nice view from this smallish lounge bar. The three hours of drinking for $99 (+10%) is pretty sweet, and there's a selection of 8 cocktails to choose from, which we stuck to all night, although stay away from the whiskey sours which totally mings!! Bit disappointed that they charged us $30 for a bowl of prawn crackers, without notifying us that there is a cost involved.
Anyhow, as we were the first there, we had free reign of the karaoke machine, which we pretty much owned for the whole night. The other guests aren't gonna quickly forget my R.Kelly impression!!!
